For some reason this reminds me of the story of how the team who worked on the CGI-animated Muppet Babies reboot accidentally rendered Animal without his fur and the end result was so hilarious and disturbing they adopted it as an unofficial mascot they named “Blurph”

Though most are flattered the “Let it Be” publisher felt this parody ruined the original’s licensing value and demanded $5.5mil - which as a nonprofit would have bankrupted Sesame Street.

By coincidence Michael Jackson bought the publisher during the suit and dropped it for $50.

Somehow, the weirdest part of this campaign is Glad will be giving away limited edition trash bags made of facsimile Oscar fur on social media, for those of you out there who have always dreamed of gutting a Muppet and placing your used waste inside of it:

Actor Danny Seagren has died at age 81. Probably best known for his role as Spider-Man in the “Spidey Super Stories” segment on The Electric Company, he also served as the original performing Big Bird when it wasn’t required for Caroll Spinney to be speaking.

Happy birthday to Charles Schulz, born on this date in 1922.

He once said - in doubting his work qualified - “art is something which is so good it speaks to succeeding generations, not only as it speaks to the first generation but better.” Time has, thankfully, proven him wrong.

SNK’s first original game, Yosaku (which is believed to no longer exist), is also believed to be the first video game to use a licensed song. It was inspired by a Japanese song about a woodcutter which appears in the game properly licensed by JASRAC (the Japanese equivalent to ASCAP/BMI).

This deflated Kermit balloon was the inspiration for an art piece recently displayed in Paris called “Kermit the Frog, Even”.

Designer Alex Da Corte says he was inspired by a photo of the balloon passing a storefront labeled FATHER AND SON and how, in a way, Kermit was Jim Henson’s son.

Roger Langridge, whose Muppet Show comic book did a great job capturing the spirit of the original show, is headed back to the characters as Dynamite’s February solicitations include “The Muppets Noir”, in which a blow to the head convinces Kermit he is a hard-boiled detective.

“Reviews are coming in from New York and they all say the same thing - why were the Muppets second fiddle to a magician nobody’s heard of? They only got ten minutes of stage time!”

“Ten minutes? If you ask me, that’s ten minutes too many!”

“DOH HOH HOH HOH HOH!”

Of course, there is also the similar case of Mattel quickly putting Barbie and the Rockers together to beat Hasbro’s Jem and the Holograms to market; although Jem is the more well-remembered of the two today the Rockers actually outsold her.

In 1977, Ideal, one of the many toy companies who passed on the Star Wars license when initially offered, quickly went into their archives and kitbashed some of their old toys together under the pre-existing trademark “Star Team” to quickly cash in on the trend.

Pig PR pre-Jennifer Lawrence: in 1990 the Henson Company planned a year-long media blitz to promote the opening of Muppet*Vision 3D, a Christmas special, and a 1991 movie with Miss Piggy announcing her breakup with Kermit and demanding an unauthorized biography cease publication.

I think if you were a child actor in Canada in the ‘90s you were required by law to appear in an episode of either Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark but regardless this credit for one of the writers of Gremlins 3 surprised me @spongey444.bsky.social

Although it’s probably the weakest part of the otherwise well-put-together package film Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters (one of the last projects Mel Blanc voiced before his death), the short “Night of the Living Duck” contains a rogue gallery of movie monsters at a nightclub and yes, The Fly is there

Ironically, Nintendo’s controversial “autonomous partner character which can optionally be controlled by a second player” patent may be rejected in the U.S. due to the fact Nintendo themselves filed a patent for a similar mechanic alongside the Switch hardware in 2019:
