We lost our beautiful kitty Jazzy last week. We’re devastated. She was way too young to pass and it hurts.

Her legacy will be honored most by reminding everyone to find the time to be playful and joyful every day. And don’t let people you don’t trust invade your space.

Love you fur-ever, Jazzy!

I led an Earthing session at a women’s retreat in Ohio last month. It was so beautiful holding space for women used to city living to reconnect to nature and themselves.

Here’s a #BatWeek sneak peak. We gave back to the bat community by assisting with bat research, focusing on migratory patterns and colony health metrics for Brazilian free-tailed bats. Just look at this little cutie!

Went all the way to Southeast New Mexico for a wetland survey in order to spot this adorable Texas horned lizard.

I’m grateful for last night’s opportunity to participate in bat research surveys.

We spent the evening capturing bats, collecting data and lab samples, PIT tagging, and then releasing them into the night sky.

I love participating in efforts to enhance bat populations. They do so much for us!

I helped with a bat capture survey last week, which is a multi-year survey studying the bat populations at a regenerative pecan farm in Texas. 🦇

I love working with bats and seeing their unique personalities.

The evening bats were chatty little things - they can definitely carry a conversation! 😉

Sometimes when you’re out doing a wetland assessment, you realize someone beat you to it. In this case, that someone was a beaver!

During our Colorado project, we stumbled upon a beaver working hard to create fabulous new habitat. It’s exciting to partner this outstanding restoration professional 😉

American beautyberry is living up to her name in the Houston area this summer. But so are the thorny vines, like green sawbriar, who made sure to reach out and remind me of their presence during the entire survey.

Can’t you just smell the vanilla emanating from these pics?

When I was a kid, I knew Ponderosa pines as “vanilla trees.” Every time I visited the Sierras, I’d wrap my arms around them and steep myself in their aroma. They grounded me. And, I guess, started my journey towards being a tree hugger 😉

Exquisite Northwest plants showing off their best blooms and tendrils on a recent visit to Mt. Tahoma (Rainier). What a gift to spend time with them!

Gorgeous plain-bellied water 🐍 hanging out with me while I took stream 📏 for a survey.

It’s like all of my wetland + stream surveys has a 🐍 friend show up to supervise. So chill & inquisitive!

The cottonmouth from last time not so much - both snake & I were on edge 😬.

Just wrapped up the 2025 TCEQ Trade Fair & Conference. Loved the new venue in SATX and had a great time networking, learning updates to environmental regulations, and hearing about current industry trends and interagency collaboration.

First homegrown fig from our “urban homestead!” Absolutely delicious.

During biological surveys for a proposed development project, I collected green milkweed seeds (A. viridis) to donate to Monarch Watch.

This nonprofit grows this host plant for monarch butterfly conservation.

This small effort makes a difference - the land’s memory will live on thru these seeds.

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time doing wetland surveys in the greater Houston area over the past few months. I want to share a few gorgeous finds with everyone - reminders that life is beautiful even if it’s also hard. 💕🪻

I was one of many who testified yesterday before the Texas House Committee on Land and Resource Management to oppose HB 3798, which would allow residential developers to skirt municipality regulations and destroy native Ashe juniper trees without accountability. The turnout was inspiring!

While traveling abroad, I passed a facility w/ insufficient pollution controls. Air quality suffered.

Meanwhile, the US news highlighted the admin’s attempts to rollback environmental regulations.

What a warning! It’s a glimpse of our future if we don’t stand up for ecological & human health.

Nice! I’ll be listening to the 5050.1 sou. We should compare notes tomorrow 💕

This little Texas mascot joined me last week on my wetland survey. I love their curious yet slightly nervous vibe. 💕

What a strange day. Climate change is once again a hoax with a call to pillage our lands to acquire liquid gold. I believe in the power of human & ecological connectivity & collaboration. I encourage the environmental community to act with integrity so we may foster resilience over the next 4 years.
