I’ve never heard a costar say a negative thing about him.

Turkish Delight and Soldier of Orange are a solid 1-2 punch.

My pleasure. I had high hopes this role would lead to a career renaissance like Deadwood did for Ian McShane. What we got, though was just not what anyone expected.

I made this terrible meme out of anger at True Blood’s treatment of Rutger’s storyline back when it was happening.

If you haven’t seen the Dutch Verhoeven-Hauer filmography, you’re missing out. Turkish Delight and Soldier of Orange are the standouts and are highlights of Rutger’s entire career

Yeah. The only reason I know is Rutger and the director discussed it in the commentary for The Hitcher. I think it was on last year's 4k release, which was very well done.

Fun fact: the prop shotgun Rutger uses at the end was also featured in Terminator, though I’ve never gone back into that movie specifically to look for it.

Hooray! This is one of my favorites, too. It showed Rutger could still pull off the leading role later in life if given the chance.

Day #21 - The Hitcher (1986)
Robert Harmon
⭐⭐⭐⭐

A serial killing hitch-hiker decides to make a young man's life hell, trapping him in a twisted game of cat and mouse in a small Texas town.

Rutger Hauer helps deliver a thriller never to be forgotten.

A new 4K version was released last year. Definitely worth the purchase.
