JCO is funny, but... As someone who has actually lived in more than two countries and is the product of a migrant family even within India - that's such a a weird thing to say.

Mint has an explainer on India's official AQI and...makes a mistake in trying to show the system as worse than it actually is.
The 24-h average AQI will be reported as the average of 24 hourly values (PM is usually reported as hourly averages), not as the average of two 12-hour averages. #IndiaAQ

![Plus, there's a big drawback in India's official system. It caps the sub-index of each pollutant at 500, no matter how big the actual calculated value is. The 24-hour average uses capped values, thus severely downplaying the reality on the worst days.
Imagine a situation where the actual uncapped AQI at a location (after adjusting the concentration levels of all pollutants to a comparable scale) comes out to be 1,500 in one half of the day, and 300 in the second half (usually the daytime is cleaner). The CPCB will report the 24-hour average as the average of 500 (instead of 1,500) and 300, i.e. 400. [Subu: this is a stupid mistake by Mint. CPCB will not report the 24-h average as the average of the two 12-hour averages!]
That doesn't reflect the reality at all:
if left uncapped, the average would have been 900. After a full day at work (revising a proposal + making a personal website), decided to make the dessert I have been craving.
Mung dal halwa. Not very sweet, probably less ghee than what you normally get. (Brar said he also used only 2/3rd of what people usually put.)
