By bounding when/why a vote can be called, what the possible outcomes may be, and establishing some mechanism of variable motivations between players, you'd end up with something fairly different from the core concept of Nomic.

It's that last one that I find interesting though. You need opposition

Yeah, I'm not even sure if I'm going to read through expert quite so deeply. I think I may have gotten what I need out of this era and my time might better be spent on other readings.

I am curious if Old School Essentials band-aids over my issues with it or if they are fundamental to the system.

Kind of. I was thinking just thinking of it as a mode of outcome resolution for a traditional ttrpg, but even that could end up in the same place.

From my closing notes:
I see the parts that others have taken to make their games, but it feels like they have taken the scant bones and left the rotting meat. [...] I don't think anything is invented here, and the connections to later work are tenuous at best.

Yeah, it leads to silly things where items have both a coin value and a coin weight. Needlessly confusing and doesn't even really do anything so simplify the game accounting since you have to remember that 10 coins=1lb

I think I've only experienced bad implementation of this (or at least versions that didn't work for my table) so I'm interested to see what has worked for people.
