Pinned post! My name is Ronny, and I work in games media! That’s mainly what I talk about on socials, if I’m not posting about my dog, Waffles. I also have a baby on the way and just started Brazilian jiu-jitsu so I’m probably gonna be pretty insufferable about those for a while.
I’m currently 97 hours into Octopath Traveler 0, a game I was really enjoying for about the first 50 hours.

Please, just let it end.

Opened up a script I wrote for work today with "After a much ballyhooed development process" and haven't been chastised yet.

Just found out my wife might be losing her job, so I'm desperately searching for work. Contract, full-time, freelance, whatever. Press, PR, consulting, anything. I have 16 years of editorial experience and have been writing about games for 13. Reviews, news, previews, guides, etc. RTs appreciated.

To ring in the new year, I finally beat Dragon Quest XI after picking away at it for years, and then resumed my playthrough of Octopath Traveler 0. Currently 75 hours in and counting. I certainly have a type.

Looking back at 2025, I edited 67 videos for @ign.com, including a few Devs React episodes and my first multicam edit!

It's been a delight to work with so many amazing colleagues and cover some of my favorite games/franchises. Three years of freelancing has taught me so much - cheers to 2026! 🥂

I've really been enjoying Death Howl. I know saying "x meets y" can be reductive, but the best way I can describe it is the combat of Into the Breach with Inscryption's tone and deckbuilding. Really cool game.

There's a demo on Steam as well!

The Boulder is over his conflicted feelings. Game looks great.
Avatar Legends is the real deal, y'all. This game is gorgeous, plays awesome, the movement is phenomenal, and the characters are super fun to play. I'm so happy that Avatar has a game like this.

That was the most fun I've had watching a Texans game in a long time.

I’ve started reading more classic literature because I want my daughter to see me reading instead of always looking at screens, and I may have jumped too far in the deep end with James Joyce.

On the bright side, I’ve learned a lot about late early 20th century Irish politics and what a pandybat is.

The video is still cooking, but my words are hot and ready. I reviewed Absolum for @ign.com. It's an exceptional beat 'em up and a middling roguelite. I enjoyed it, but I wish it hadn't wasted so much of my time forcing me to get my numbers up to progress. Death to RPG elements in action games.
Absolum Review - IGN
An excellent beat ‘em up let down by a roguelite structure that doesn’t serve it.

Hello! You may have seen it, but I am one of the employees that have been impacted by layoffs at IGN.

It's been a great six years, but this now means I am looking to apply my talents to something new and exciting.

*Record Scratch* Freeze Frame. "You're probably wondering how I got here."

I am one of the eight IGN members laid off. During my three years at IGN, I worked for some of the best creators and writers around. I will miss them all dearly.
Today, IGN laid off eight extremely valuable members of our union and workforce via directive from our parent company, Ziff Davis. This, after two incredibly successful live events IGN Live and SDCC, and yet another corporate acquisition.

Please take a moment to read and share our full statement:

College Football 26 is my 25th review for @ign.com! It's a good football sim that makes smart improvements but still has a ways to go achieve greatness. 25 IGN reviews is... surreal.

I did one in 2021. Two in 2022. Five in 2023. Ten in 2025. I have done seven this year, and have three more coming.
