Never pleasant when a journal takes over 1 year to decide to reject your paper. The 2 reviews indicated a revise and resubmit but EIC rejected:

I was hoping that my first bsky post would be more cheerful. I recently joined NIH (NIEHS) as a PO. I fought hard for this position and was so excited to support health science from a new vantage point… I picked up my life and moved to NC. Unfortunately, my time at NIEHS was short lived.

Just in case you thought that removing DEI criteria would mean that everyone is competing equally: NIH is removing grad students from underrepresented backgrounds from the applicant pool altogether. Their applications will not be considered. Other students, not from these backgrounds, will be.

I have been reading more closely the Trump agenda for DEI and the NIH. If only 1% of R01 grants go to Black scientists at NCI for example, how much lower can we go?

We should change the name of DEI programs to human rights programs, because the core of addressing disparities, especially in health care is a HUMAN rights issue.
