The United Kingdom is no longer sharing intelligence with the US about suspected drug trafficking vessels in the Caribbean because it does not want to be complicit in US military strikes and believes the attacks are illegal, sources familiar with the matter told CNN. The UK’s decision marks a significant break from its closest ally and intelligence sharing partner and underscores the growing skepticism over the legality of the US military’s campaign around Latin America. For years, the UK, which controls a number of territories in the Caribbean where it bases intelligence assets, has helped the US locate vessels suspected of carrying drugs so that the US Coast Guard could interdict them, the sources said. That meant the ships would be stopped, boarded, its crew detained, and drugs seized.

“Everyone is on pins and needles,” the source told MSNBC, referring to prosecutors who fear being asked by the U.S. Attorney Reding Quiñones, or his leadership team, to work on a case that President Donald Trump has said should lead to the arrests of an expansive list of individuals, including former President Barack Obama and former CIA Director John Brennan. The Justice Department approved at least 30 subpoenas on Friday, including for Brennan and former FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. The subpoenas request any kind of documents, including emails and texts, related to the intelligence community assessment about Russian interference in the 2016 election. Those subpoenaed were asked for any materials dated between July 1, 2016 and February 28, 2017, according to the source familiar with some of the issued subpoenas. Those kinds of documents, the source familiar said, were so highly classified that they “would be in the possession of the government.” The intelligence and law enforcement officials now facing subpoenas were already subjects of two prior investigations led by then-special counsel John Durham and former Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz. Those investigations found no evidence to support charges against major targeted players like Brennan.

My reason is simple: I no longer can bear to be restrained by what judges can say publicly or do outside the courtroom. President Donald Trump is using the law for partisan purposes, targeting his adversaries while sparing his friends and donors from investigation, prosecution, and possible punishment. This is contrary to everything that I have stood for in my more than 50 years in the Department of Justice and on the bench. The White House’s assault on the rule of law is so deeply disturbing to me that I feel compelled to speak out. Silence, for me, is now intolerable.

If a Democratic president flooded your city with troops on a pretext, and you copied Sandwich Guy's actions precisely, and you were caught on video, and a US Attorney appointed by the Democratic president had THREE grand juries fail to indict you for felony assault, and finally had you indicted for misdemeanor assault, and you got a fair trial, and they found you not guilty…I would celebrate the verdict just as loudly

Among the places that shifted the most toward Spanberger were Manassas and Manassas Park, cities where more than 40 percent of residents are Hispanic and Trump made large gains in 2024.

The White House last week informed a federal office charged with conducting oversight of the Trump administration that it was blocking congressionally approved money for its operations for the coming fiscal year, effectively shuttering it after midnight on Tuesday. The blocked funds are not linked to the funding showdown between congressional Democrats and Republicans that could prompt a government shutdown at the same time. The decision to defund the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency, which drew quick condemnation from top Republicans in the Senate who are now pressing to reverse it, was the latest effort by the White House to undermine independent investigators in the federal government. It was also an end run around Congress by a White House that has repeatedly sought to usurp the legislative branch’s power over federal spending. The move would shut down an umbrella office that supports the government’s 72 inspectors general, and could wipe out a public website where they post their reports, which includes a repository of decades of recommendations on how the government can save money.
