I’ll poke around on YouTube. As I said: I’ve never seen it.

Yes - I’m the one doing the conflating. I went through an O’Hara phase years ago and read it. Super-Interesting and thought it had been produced.
How I came up with Farmer Takes a Wife - no fucking idea.

… and just discovered there was a Harburg/Arlen musical -
What? Betty Grable? I’m sure you know all about it. News to me.

Ahhhh …. EMINENTLY. But for a moment I imagined you pulling strings at the Roundabout and I was trying to imagine whom you would cast.

I did see Rutherford. A Katie Mitchell production at the NT and it was fantastic.

Wait … you almost revised Roses?

Yep.

I’ve never seen any of them. Would love to track down the Ackland. As an AD I considered *so* many of the Super-Interesting, but rarely had the guts to actually produce. Clearly though, I’m not the only one!

Barker/Waste - Babe/Fathers and Sons - John O’Hara/ The Farmer Takes a Wife (his only play) - Crothers/He and She - Sowerby/Rutherford and Son -

I could go on. And on.

“Super-Interesting”: Hellman/The Autumn Garden - Gilroy/Who’ll Save the Plowboy - Boucicault/The Shaughraun - Ackland/Absolute Hell

Even more heresy—I prefer the film (and play) much more than The Philadelphia Story which receives far more productions.
The 1928 play is delightful but also *darker* than often presented; which I love. Richard Greenberg’s adaptation (commissioned by Philip Barry’s family) is quite lovely.

Many thanks.

Thanks for the support!

Well … good question. Whether or not it *needs* to be adapted is a matter for discussion. But it has been; VERY faithful to original 1928 play, but set now in contemporary NYC, with the same themes which I believe are quite relevant.

I think you’ll like Days of Heaven as your next stop; then try Tree of Life. Then A New World.

Nope- never worked in Boise.
