Celebrating Terrence Malick’s birthday today — the director behind Badlands, Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, Tree of Life, and the masterpiece too few have seen: A Hidden Life. A work of quiet thunder.

Today we celebrate Leonard Cohen, born on this day. Poet, prophet, singer of our shadows and our light. He once reminded us: “In this world, you have to be a bit too kind just to be kind enough.”
May we carry that wisdom forward.

Go shit in your hat, jagoff. Chicago’s seen tougher punks and bigger crooks — you’re just another loudmouth con with tiny fingers and a withered dick.

It’s Robert Altman’s centenary—and my own film-loving kids haven’t seen his work or shown much interest. Has he fallen out of favor? Just rewatched California Split: wild, brilliant, pure Altman. Maybe it’s time for a rediscovery—@criterionchannel retrospective drops in September.

Imagine being Zelensky or Macron, bracing for serious talks on war and peace, and this clown starts showing off his MAGA hat collection like it’s the Louvre. Embarrassing doesn’t even cover it—America’s crackpot-in-chief turning the White House into a QVC clearance rack.

“Andrew, your ‘government that works’ worked so well it worked you right out of office. And the Erie Canal? Congrats on your 200-year-old ribbon-cutting. We’ll stick with our skyline, our lake, and our hot dogs — no ketchup, no Cuomo.”

Robert Wilson has left us at 83.
The stage dims. Time slows.
A train floats by in silence.
A chair descends from the rafters.
Light like a scalpel.
Stillness that screamed.
He didn’t direct and design plays.
He dreamed them—then let us walk inside.

I’m directing the much-missed Richard Greenberg’s luminous adaptation of Philip Barry’s Holiday after the first of the year. Watching Hepburn in the film for inspiration—while cat-sitting Dublin, my daughter’s regal roommate. Big fan of Kate. Excellent taste.

Babysitting my daughter’s delightful cat, Dublin, for the next few days. I took this pic with her posing in the bathtub; reminds me of an Irving Penn photograph.

Don’t know who made this list, but the Scotts certainly know how to insult a visiting President.

So happy to see Godot promoted with “Samuel Beckett” printed like it’s the side effects on a tube of hemorrhoid cream. Just the guy who wrote maybe the most iconic play of the 20th century—no need to make his name legible. Fucking inspired.

I Believe Sunset Boulevard has closed and their's nothing to spoil; so why is Norma Despond covered in blood? Is she a vampire? Did she dismember Joe with a chainsaw?
