The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here.

But, while we can, say it anyway.
There’s more to British history than the bloody Tudors!
The seventeenth century is where the REALLY big stuff happens.
This is a terrific series. Give it a listen.

If I ever have the misfortune to meet Nigel Farage, I have some ready-prepared banter to share with him.

I don’t know what’s in this week’s Budget. And I know that I don’t know. And I wish that all the other people who don’t know would admit they don’t know.
Time for a lie-down.

NEW There's no overstating how significant the Nathan Gill case is. On Friday, the close associate of Nigel Farage was jailed for over 10 years for taking bribes ultimately from a friend of Putin. It's a complex, detail-heavy story that raises questions about Farage’s claim Gill was ‘one bad apple’🧵

Never mind Proust and his madeleine: I just opened a tin of Dubbin. The years just rolled away.

Dear Donald

I think you’ve got enough to worry about. So do one.

For what it’s worth …
We have very high expectations of the BBC, one such being that they will tell the truth.
We have very low expectations of Donald Trump, one such being that he will lie.
The BBC occasionally disappoints our expectations. Donald Trump never does.

Two musical offerings.
A clavichord once played by Mozart; and a piano owned by Beethoven and subsequently Liszt.
Both in the wonderful National Museum in Budapest.

If you can, get vaccinated! I can’t understand why so many of my over-65 cohort haven’t done so yet. Come on guys - get those sleeves rolled up.
Definitely worth paying for a flu jab this year, about £15 at pharmacies!

A couple of weeks ago I was reading the book. Now - on a trip unplanned at the time - I find myself in the National Museum in Budapest looking at this display of items relating to the events of ‘The Picnic.’ My wife says Fate; I say coincidence. Either way, incredible!

I do try to be tolerant of other people’s concerns when they differ from my own. Honestly, I do.
But if your biggest concern today is the John Lewis Christmas advert, then you really need to Get A Life.

That was rather splendid. The Hallé Orchestra and Choir performing ‘Harmonium’ - just awesome.
Very excited about going to see some of these pieces being performed by the Hallé Orchestra later this week, conducted by none other than the composer himself.

A terrific read. Not just as the history of a key moment; but as a timely reminder that the worst oppression can be overcome through courage, hope and no small amount of cunning. And when enough good people come together to do the right thing.
