A civil engineer in Edinburgh. Cycle path closures and a bit of history.
I've seen them blow over, even after standing them back up. It's in specific exposed locations, like Waverley Bridge and Fountainpark. The Serco/JustEat scheme suffered from the same issue.

That is what the 2010 application describes. New fence is a continuation of tihs.

Do you have any photos of the temporary plastic sheeting used at Roseburn Park?

It's been filled with temporary cold lay asphalt now.
They put cones around it, but the cones just ended up all over the road. Had to stop with a bus behind me this morning to move one.

Heras fencing is typically used to keep users away from exposed embankments. Example from coatbridge viaduct works 2020

It's disappointing to see public safety cited as a reason for implementing such a dangerous diversion across a busy junction.
It should be possible to manage the risk of works along the path as done for CEC's regular lighting, devegetation and drainage works.

If you can get to Inverleith Park, quietroute 20 may be a better option. Otherwise, there are few safe alternatives.

Also looking for guidance on this. I've seen a draft 'factsheet' from a local authority quoting a 1.5m gap for cycles is reduced to 1.2m for HVM, but no source or further advice on height/visibility. In Edinburgh and Manchester the Surface Guard barriers have been used for active travel permeability

If the Beltane Fire Festival can do it, why not CEC?

Closure now to extend to Saturday. Hearing through the grapevine that it may become a long term issue. #EdTravCyc www.threads.com/@edinburghtr...

👍 Amendment passed, voting 7-4

👍 Fantastic news! Transport & wider considerations must now be incorporated in the strategy

This might not have happened without long-term effort/persistence by Spokes & the visionary/technical expertise of Richard Murphy architects

In the closure last week it had permeable traffic cones. Could be blocked when works are taking place however. Closure will return Thurs/Fri. www.threads.com/@edinburghtr...
