Am I depressed because of what's happening or am I depressed because of the people who somehow didn't see it coming?

Both. It's both.

OK, gonna throw this spicy bomb out there.

If you're fortunate enough to have disposable income, then right now it is your duty to use that income wisely. You have agency over how you spend it and you should own how you spend it.

Your decisions do, in fact, affect stock prices of big corporations.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

we don’t need climate action just for future generations, we need it now.

the climate crisis is here, all around us

I don’t mind people owning cars. What I do mind is the insistence that they should be allowed to leave them on publicly funded streets, while also demanding an excess of parking lots that consume finite urban space, sterilize our environment, and make cities more hostile to exist in.

the frenzy over the hunter biden pardon is a good reminder that the press knows how to make something a scandal and has decided that nothing trump does is truly deserving of that treatment

The final chapter of the Garland Shirt Factory proved one thing: even without the Brooks Brothers behind it (a company that had its own problems), it could not find enough orders to sustain operations. The simple reason is because at $10-14/ hour wages, a shirt is expensive.

The Washington Post reports that Michael Anton and Sebastian Gorka had a falling out over who should receive credit for writing Trump's speeches. This is incorrect. In this thread, I will tell you the real reason why Anton dislikes Gorka. 🧵

i've noticed that when i shitpost and joke around on Old Twitter, it gets much more engagement than anything on Bluesky. But actual posts about my work get a lot more attention, likes, and seem to direct more actual traffic than they do on Twitter.

IMO, most men shouldn't pair a sport coat with jeans because they probably don't have an eye for it. However, the good news is that it's pretty easy to develop this eye. 🧵
