My uncle, who died in 2015, had been a police/crime #author starting in the 1980s and was at me for years that I could, and should, write #fiction. When I finally tried it, he told me he liked what he’d read and that I had to keep at it. His encouragement was what I needed.😁

Good morning #5amWritersClub,

I am determined to figure out what gets our little community interacting with each other! Today's question:

What made you decide it was time to start writing a book? Was it recent, or a lifelong desire?

🗽 TGIF, Citizens' Impeachment!

In your inboxes this morning is a personalized script for you, based on how your rep voted yesterday on the impeachment resolution.

The great news:
🟣 67 Dems moved from against impeachment to pro-impeachment. That means a majority of Dems (140) now support it!

trump said when he was campaigning that he was going to make "America affordable again.
Now he's saying that affordability is a Democrat hoax.
MAGA will believe anything this dumb son of a bitch says.

Every single one. Because nothing is perfect. Whenever I look at anything in any book, and no matter how good anyone ever said it was, I always see “something” I would now write “differently.”
Writers: do you have a story you wish you could do over? Any reason is valid.

Trump wants to hit non-US social media users because he knows “1 billion” non-Americans not only criticize him but also make fun of him. Having no sense of humor, he HATES being made fun of. US travel permission bureaucracy is really the only way he can get at such people abroad.

They would never let me into this country if I weren't already here
In addition to 5 years of social media history, CBP would also require tourists to provide all phone numbers used over that period, any email addresses used in the past decade, DNA and iris scans, and the names, addresses, birthdates and birthplaces of family members
Including children

1/7 “Perhaps you flatter yourself they may come to America?"

That is from an autumn 1786 letter 43-year-old widower (of four years) Thomas Jefferson wrote from Paris to a married 27-year-old Anglo-Italian (Italian was her first language; her English had an Italian accent) who was home in London…

As Eleanor Roosevelt said, this is no ordinary time. If they actually think Trump has done nothing warranting impeachment (on May 4, on Meet the Press, for one, he threatened military action against Denmark) and that he is administering the Executive constitutionally, that is terribly disappointing.
And now, the 47 cowardly Democrats who were whipped by leadership to vote 'present' on the impeachment resolution today:

Pete Aguilar of CA

Wesley Bell of MO

Ami Bera of CA

Don Beyer of VA

Janelle Bynum of OR

Ed Case of HI

Sean Casten of IL

Kathy Castor of FL

Again, it is following the Putin playbook. This is “Russia 2022” stuff. Anyone who opposes a “Dear Leader” Trump “policy” is by definition an “extremist” who needs to be “brought to justice.”

I recorded an emergency pod to explain this story. Fair warning: it’s likely to be the scariest thing you hear today. And, if you’re not alarmed, you’re not paying attention.

Choosing a department font would seem to mark about the extent of the suck up’s “independent” decision-making as Secretary of State.
At least while we are screwing over our allies around the world we will be doing it in an anti-woke font.

GOP Rep. Don Bacon is not happy about Trump’s recent comments on Europe:

“I don't like when he trashes Europe and kisses Russia's ass. Don't like it.”

He says Trump’s strategy is “terrible” and “there’s probably been no worse national security strategy written since the 1930s.”

If you are a US citizen, this “opening and reading the mail” KGB-stuff is eventually coming for us, too. Don’t be shocked when it becomes a condition to get a passport or federal student aid, etc. The 1st & 4th Amendments will be ignored for “national security” reasons - meaning criticizing Trump.

Just watched “Robin Hood” with Errol Flynn. Had not seen it in years. Could not get over how it holds up so well as a film.

Could not get over either how the early scene with Prince John in Nottingham Castle, with the barons sucking up to him, still seemed less absurd than a Trump cabinet meeting.

Rick: “If it's December 1941 in Casablanca, what time is it in New York?”

Sam: “What? My watch stopped.”

Rick: “I'd bet they're asleep in New York. I'd bet they're asleep all over America.”
Neither Netflix nor the Paramount/Trump/Saudi Arabia group should own Warner Bros. Both deals are absurd - terrible for consumers and democracy.

This is a story about corruption - Trump using government power to screw consumers and gain control of the media. A red alert moment.

The “rebirth” of “the Gilded Age” goes on. So this SCOTUS majority seems about to rule only the “spoils system” of pre-1883 is constitutional: If your guy is in power, you may get a government job, but if the other guy is, you’re out.

That worked especially well, we recall, for President Garfield.
New, from me: by embracing unitary executive theory, the Supreme Court is moving towards making all public employees fireable at the will of the President.

This will not just hurt government competence, it will aid democratic backsliding. 🧵

Trump always says the US is paid - like a mercenary - to defend NATO countries.

That is FALSE.

NATO’s a collective military alliance in which we pledge to defend each other. So if anyone attacks, say, the Aleutians, even Türkiye - not exactly nearby - will join us in the war against the attacker.

Well, given Putin is Trump's mentor and guide, it is only a matter of time before Freedom House's leadership is all declared “foreign agents" and the group decreed to be an "undesirable organization."
Every Western European country scores higher on the global ranking of freedom and democracy than the U.S. does, according to Freedom House, a U.S.-based nonprofit that ranks countries according to measures such as election process, rule of law and individual rights.

“The Roses” wasn’t really one. Regardless, I don’t get why they just didn’t set the story here in #Devon where most was filmed - such as in #Salcombe, and down the road from us on #BlackpoolSands (pic from September) - instead of trying to pass off those English locations as California? Huh?:

Non-Americans need to understand the US is in the midst of a “cold civil war.” We do not know precisely how it will end, of course. However, within that struggle the mass of Americans plainly do not support the Trump regime’s foreign “policies,” and especially oppose his “Pact of Steal” with Putin.
This is why I’m cautiously optimistic — in the long run.

US troops helping Putin take Kyiv?

Seizing Greenland?

Moving the Treasury to “Trump Bank?”

Declaring himself “Duce for Life?”

Film of him raping children?

A nuclear strike on Ottawa?
