But things only worsen once the Waking Sands are marauded. Rivi and Mashi remain, both dealing with being at the center of this. But Rivi's self-blame is challenged by Mashi's initiative, and the two grow ever closer in leaning on each other. Slowly, Rivi strengthens from resolve. #rivisjourney

Rivière gradually adjusts, but this soon rapidly reverses. Barely surviving a god's wrath and living in the place of dozens of tempered leaves them shaken. Rivi feels their Echo was blessed mistakenly. Minfilia shares its weight, and so uplifts them with empathy and experience. #rivisjourney

Rivière finds the Scions a warmer and more accepting group than they feared - especially a fellow new recruit, Mamashi Mashi, a boisterous Ul'dahn dancer. Despite their opposite personalities, the two become an unexpectedly close pair from working together, as well as sharing the Echo. #rivisjourney

Then, one day, a letter arrived, from a group referred by Sharlayan to them about their Echo. Although an intimidating prospect, Rivière knew that pitching in to help Eorzea, even in a small way, would fulfill their promise to Krile better than aiding thieves.

Rivière kept these promises close ever since. Back home, Amelaine moved them out into the hinterlands to practice Pictomancy and be themself away from Ishgardian judgement. They fell in with Idyllshire's treasure hunters, especially Midnight Dew, who took them under her wing. #rivisjourney

Rivière didn't seem meant to become an Archon, though. Growing depressed and isolated from pressure and mistreatment, they eventually flunked out. But before they went home, Krile made them promise to never give up on themself - nor on using the magic they developed together for good. #rivisjourney

Bullied for his outside upbringing, unusual talents, Echo and meekness, Remi eventually found a kindred spirit in Krile, who he grew an unrequited crush on. Krile helped revive the forgotten art of Pictomancy with them, as well as embrace their gender identity, and a new name: Rivière. #rivisjourney

Born in the Dravanian Sharlayan colony and orphaned in its exodus, Remi Menami was taken in by an Ishgardian Elezen scholar named Amelaine Renais. Seeing his prodigious talents of a rare form of artistic magic, she later encouraged him to attend Sharlayan's Studium to hone it. #rivisjourney

A chart of my WoL Rivière's relationships with the other Scions. Krile: From closest teenage friends to lovers in adulthood. Krile instilled hope and purpose in them, Rivière helped her feel less alone. They're a total puppy dog over her. Tataru: Basically kidnapped and adopted Rivière the moment they joined. Very warm and close. Y'shtola: Highly intimidated yet fascinated by her. Y'shtola kind of enjoys toying with them. Yda/Lyse: Was encouraging to Rivière from the very start, and they reciprocated in kind with loyalty during Stormblood. Papalymo: Was stern but caring with Rivière. They deeply regret not getting to know him better. Estinien: Finds him a little scary but there's a mutual respect. He somehow still doesn't know they're trans. Thancred: His connection with Mashi helped them become closer. Sort of a big brother over time. They can get frustrated by him, though. Ryne: Bonded over shared experiences with self-actualization. Minfilia: She uplifted them at a pivotal time and they've never forgotten. G'raha: Became close in school, and even closer years later. Good at bringing boldness and energy out of them. Real goobers when together. Alphinaud: Became a big sister to both twins. Close to Alphinaud for both being fellow tender souls and nerdy artists. Alisae: Scared of her at first, now they're close enough that they sometimes tease her. Urianger: Once distant, but opened up to each other during shared time with the Pixies in the First. Fellow awkward introverts.

Finally found this comparison I caught of the three of them from when I was finishing DT months back! It's a little misleading though due to Rivi's posture and Mashi's slightly more forward position.

Riviére's shift was quietly insidious, appearing as occasional trance-like states. More and more dazed and non-verbal. Their eyes and hair gradually shifted closer to pure white, and they'd shudder and convulse more and more.
