Compliance in the policy world is associated with restrictions, but in engineering the term refers to the property of a material to be flexible, the inverse of stiffness. Some interesting thoughts on how we can make flexibility a property of law itself

TIL that the concept/term "technoscience" was invented by none other than Harold Lasswell, the founding father of modern political psychology. (Lasswell pioneered many other key social scientific concepts, such as "the policy sciences" and "the garrison state.")

Do I know anyone who's worked in freeing OSS with accompanying stranded IP in the public sector? Situation is:

- originally incubated at a publicly funded institution
- open-source code
- ownership of everything beyond the code is unclear (e.g. trademark, data, governance, commercial usage rights)

"Such fractious eras can be terrible to live through, as we are all finding out now, but they do have a silver lining: They create an opening for the ordinary individual to gain agency at the expense of both kinds of elites...These gains typically take a very particular form: better protocols."

This is why experiments like www.edgecity.live are exciting to me. Still early days, but it's one way to increase the democratic bitrate in cities.

We're starting to get into weeds of our first in-house project at V6A and I'm realizing I've been grappling with an intense craving for legibility these last few weeks. I wonder how much we've fumbled by giving into this craving too soon. Falling into the trap of rationalism/logic-izing too fast

The Dispatches have dropped. Half an alternative vision to network states and half hyperstition, the research plays with what a localized, but globally networked world could look like. Each story focuses in on a theme, from nested bioregionalism to supermodular software and composable public policy.

Bluesky is built to give users control over their social spaces online. Today, we’re open sourcing Ozone, a tool that lets users collaboratively inspect and label content on the network.
