Unless there’s a major solvency issue, the interlocking contracts for purchase and manufacture have an inertia all their own. Not to mention the bond issues being done by insanely profitable companies so they can smooth out cashflow.

Well, actually, that’s the way it has always been. Specialized hardware has always had lead times measured in quarters. But now, volumes requested (and the $$$ involved) are so large that manufacturers are pulling from the consumer supply chain in order to fulfill orders.
