Already a Snipe & a Marsh Harrier early on, but both beaten by a Common Gull

A Song Thrush high & fast heading towards the horizon sun.

Soul pigeon!

A Kestrel seeking shelter on my drainpipe.

A Marsh Harrier right overhead, perhaps prompting the Fieldfare's call from higher above.

A Coal Tit first to the feeders.

Well, no, actually. Many never see the sea. Common Gulls are more likely inland than on the coast.
November 22, 2025 at 12:13 PM
Could be more a coastal bird?
November 22, 2025 at 11:33 AM
By the Humber they are annual, but only in very small numbers - enough to be remarked upon.
I fact Caspian Gull is more frequent.

Yellow-legged Gulls appear regularly where you are. Are they a thing in your neck of the woods?
(Yet to see one from my house)

Wet & windy: hardly a bird. A Rook sails overhead.

Big movements over the estuary: 500 Golden Plover, Lapwings, Whooper Swans, Cormorants, Mallard, Fieldfares & Starlings.
But the Magpie pair from the pear tree at first light first.

Lesser BBs disappear in late summer, post breeding, here. Back in spring.

They are aggressive, aren't they! Seem to spend more time chasing other birds than feeding.
But Noisy Miners are annoying - & so common.
November 20, 2025 at 11:07 AM
Noisy Miners? Very aptly named birds.

White & frozen with more snow beginning. A contrast Crow stands out.

My spreadsheet says 4352. Hoping that I make it to around 5500 (about half the world's birds) before I die.
Belize I'd love to see.

Glad to hear they've gone.
I'm researching for a Peru trip, currently, for Sept or Oct.
Meanwhile, I'm off to Zanzibar in a few weeks, then Nepal & India in Feb/Mar.
I've been to the US four times (if you include 12 hours in Atlanta - I was birding, on my way home from Ecuador!)

Thanks, Marilyn, not while the orange-faced pædophile-friend is around, though.

Who knew Illinois had a holocaust museum! (Not me, ie.)
If you get over here again I'd be happy to guide you (should you need guiding!)

Retirement has given me more time to pursue interests I already had. Travel & birding, or both simultaneously. The poetry is languishing, however.
The only editing I do is my birding spreadsheet!
