Trying to be a bit better w/ engaging here, and so apologies that this is so delayed but...

Congrats to @rhall01.bsky.social successfully defending her MS last Thursday! Really cool work spanning spatial scales for bumble bees: landscape genetics across the state and nesting within cattle pastures.

Lots of darkness in the world, but one bright spot was getting to see my first grad students walk at commencement this last weekend. @alecchristensen.bsky.social @rhall01.bsky.social

It is a bit overdue, but fun to finally have a photo to share of the whole lab, courtesy of today's hike at Buffalo River State Park.

Fun to announce @alecchristensen.bsky.social defended his MS thesis yesterday in the Environmental and Conservation Sciences program. Looking forward to helping chapters get out and to see what he does as he goes off to do his PhD at West Viriginia University

Just a reminder that Appalachia is not code for white- my kid’s dad is Appalachian and Indian- there are tons of communities of color throughout Appalachia.

Scientific breakthroughs we might not have had without NSF funding:

The Internet
Smartphones
DNA analysis
MRIs
Doppler radar
Bar codes

And this is just the tiniest tip of the iceburg.

This is exactly why NSF's response is so concerning. We need leaders who aren't complying in advance to unlawful orders that are paused by courts or rescinded by the WH
they cannot ignore the courts if the bureaucracy obeys them.
Relentless rule by decree until its standard operating procedure. They will ignore the courts. It’s not a sign of strength, but it is the end goal.
