If the "god" in question never makes direct contact, it's easier for people who are scared of the unknown to frame it as a god (and easier for someone seeking power to exploit that fear). If regular people have ways of definitively interacting with it, they may see it more as an ally than a master.

Every culture has its own way of trying to interpret the unknown. Sometimes they do experiments to try to understand it; sometimes they worship it and declare further investigation to be sacrilege. You could absolutely have many different cultures that treat it differently.

I think it depends on what the hypnotist wants. So, usually, yes.
