#Children as users is a form of #generative art. It seeks to depict how big tech platforms, such as social media and generative AI, deliberately do not acknowledge children as users because of the associated costs for protection and age-appropriated content.

Just ranting that got 1 application rejected for a major funding. The organ expressly told to make the language simple so laymen and people from other expertises can understand.
It was precisely the simplicity that got my application rejected 🤌
My RQ, hypothesis and methodology needed to be clearer

#Captchas always amazed me because they appeared without any fanfarres and yet they are an important part of the #web. It feels like they become an entity of their own - like a guardian of a portal or tower. It is an automaton, but I imagined it like a riddler.

Hi network, I am interested in joining (or perhaps even helping creating) workshops blending research with and about #AI and forms of #art such as #narratives, #drawing, #games and etc. If you know these or would be interested in partnering up (I do comic strips for instance), let me know.

Ever since I started working in #academia, I haven't read any other #book that is not academic. This is not because I am not interested, but because I feel guilty of using my time for non-scientific literature. But mostly the reason is that I feel that as researcher from the global #south

Watching the Wicked, all I could think was that a lot of "witches" were persecuted because their knowledge or lifestyle challenged the status quo. I once read that knowing too much about herbs was a potential danger for people to be accused of #witchcraft.

My most recent work on AI. Because often we forget that behind the #hype and #cyberutopianism, AI is being generally funded not for #altruism or the good of humanity, but to automate labour and reduce costs, much to the expense of the social.

Still in the dire look for job and funding as a #globalsouth #independent #researcher, I come to share some small good news. My proposal "Social Representations and Genai: Representations of Children through Synthetic Imagery" has been accepted for the next International Sociological Association

"Sir, should I feel guilty for using AI?".
My Bsky - what do you think?
This question is extremely important because of (1) the simple and yet daring way it was asked, and (2) who asked: a high school student from Indonesia, but also (3) the spontaneous reflection of #ethics of #AI.

Ahh the #promises of #AI. They never fail to amaze us. In 2015, Elon #Musk said that we will have #selfdriving cars in two years. In 2018, tests with these cars resulted in two deaths in the US, and nowadays analysts pushed the prediction to 2035.

Remember how i told y'all that text written by neurodivergent peeps would likely have a higher false positive rate on "AI" checkers because masking means they are likely to engage in careful and specific word choice and that that would show up in text as "unnatural?" This is more of that.
Kid has an English assignment, where school has kids first submit essay to an "AI checker." Kid did not use AI. AI checker says the use of the word "devoid" magically turned essay into 18% AI written. Changing "devoid" makes it drop to 0%. We're spending time "un-AI-ing" an essay that has no AI.

My most recent #critical #ai and #sociotechnical #comic #strip. Please bear in mind, I am an AI enthusiast myself and love to jump to try new #technologies. But we can't close our eyes to the unsustainable and oppressive systems that enable #generativeai to function nowadays. More below.

Fellow bskytizens. Is there a repository or something of the sort where I can see the official discourses of #GenAI?

Better yet, have you seen any ad of GenAI? I am looking for a repository of that as well.

Yes we have something in common with #robots - plenty of microplastics inside us! Researchers from the VU Amsterdam (Leslie et al, 2022) found proof, in a substantial part of the participants (77%) that we have microplastics running in our blood.

I am André, a sociologist (and lawyer) doing research about technology and children. Ever since my PhD (Uni of Geneva, Dec 2023), I've been looking for positions of postdoc and +

#Comic strips: Conversations with a #chatbot no. 6. Inspired by a future not so far. The #AI will enslave us? More like the #business behind it will accelerate the depletion of our #resources much before it. But the shareholders will be happy.
