Having lived through leukaemia twice, bone cancer, the threat of amputation, several rounds of pneumonia, osteopenia (resulting in several painful stress fractures throughout my ribcage) and now long covid, I find being able to make light of relatively minor issues is somewhat freeing.

As another person commented, the cold air dries the sinuses and makes you more susceptible to pathogens in the air. You’re also more likely to interact with others who are are infected with flu or a cold.

But it never used to be like this. I practically lived in arenas and on ice growing up - playing hockey and figure skating. I used to hike around in the snow every winter happily. Now I’m like a feeble ingenue from a Victorian novel. One chill breeze and I’m fighting off galloping consumption.
