A retro gaming geek that dives into the magic of retro gaming from the 70's, 80's and 90's (and maybe some early '00's when necessary). Every game has a story. https://www.retrogaminggeek.com
How is this even possible?

I stumbled across one of my favorite games growing up: 3-D Ultra Pinball, by Sierra Games. This game was so much fun, and better than Space Cadet pinball included with Windows (though that was really good too).

As a kid with a Genesis, and then a Sega CD, and then a Saturn, this generation of games blew me away. 3D gaming came home from the arcades and it was incredible.

Okay, no looking it up. :) DOOM was actually id Software's 5th 3D game. What were their first four 3D games?

(Confession: I had no idea until I started reading John Romero's autobiography.)

The team that took the Sega Genesis to malls around the country and had people play it head-to-head against the Super Nintendo. Players overwhelmingly liked the Genesis more when played head-to-head.

This magazine cover is literally the reason why Raptor: Call of the Shadows and Demonstar were created. Scott Host was surprised to see his first game, Galactix, on this cover, which made it a hit. It resulted in calls from Westwood Studios and Apogee.

It's so crazy that Makoto Uchida, the creator of Altered Beast and Golden Axe was also the guy who made Ribbit! Honestly, I had never heard of Ribbit! before writing up a Developer Deep Dive of Makoto Uchida.

Some of the best quotes in a game came from Magneto in X-Men Arcade:

“X-Men! Welcome to die!”
“X-Men! Come dead!”
“X-Men come to die!”
“X-Chickens!”
“I am Magneto, master of magnet!”
“You shall meet with my wrath!”
“You are helpless against my power.”
“Shieeeeeld…”

Konami's first two hits: Scramble and Frogger.

BONUS: Did you know that the name Konami comes from a combination of the names of the other founding members of the company, Kagemasa 'KŌ'zuki, Yoshinobu 'NA'kama, and Tatsuo 'MI'yasako.

Before it was Raptor: Call of the Shadows, it was Mercenary: 2029. Creator Scott Host made Mercenary: 2029 as a demo, while creating Second Sword. You can read all about its development here: www.retrogaminggeek.com/raptor-call-...
