Salatin's father worked for a major petroleum company, Texas Oil, using his earnings to purchase a 1,000-acre farm in Venezuela. Salatin describes in his book You Can Farm how his family were involved in “wildcat oil drilling,” and after “clearing some of the jungle” to establish a chicken and dairy farm, "in a totally free market…without government regulations” they quickly “cornered the poultry market.” The family left Venezuela in 1959 following the 1958 election of President Rómulo Betancourt who instituted a program to redistribute land.

A little snippet from Father Barrow, a gothic folk fantasy/horror I've been working on for some time.
The moment it heard him landing the corpse screeched and burst from its casket and flew towards Father Barrow. It held one of its shoes above its head and after latching onto him began belting him with it, and biting his face, and kicking his ribs, all the while cackling and screeching. The other corpses quickly followed suit, one using its left arm as a cudgel, the other raking Father Barrow with long yellow nails.

Little snippet from a wip. This is kind of a hard story to write, but every time I go back to it I'm interested to see where it goes, so hopefully I'll have something more complete soon.
The gnome and his wife shook their heads in sorrow, often exclaiming how foolish he had been to wander so far, but also saying they knew full well the folly of youth. When they had finished eating the gnome lit his pipe and the mantis collected the plates while the children all piled into the bed. The gnome served them all dandelion wine and deep into the night they drank and shared stories, as the rain came down in great sheets outside. Winslow didn’t remember falling asleep, but he did and he dreamt of large inky creatures moving in a deep abyss. He dreamt that he was a great hunter, and these were his quarry. He woke and felt the sun on his face. He was no longer in the forest, he was in a field he did not recognize, with plants and bugs he had never seen before. And so Winslow got up and started his adventures going home.

I saw this wet felted cat bed on Facebook marketplace and I'm obsessed with it now. I've wanted to try wet felting for a while and I need to make some crazy ass shit like this.

An older piece of writing, I almost exclusively write folk or fairy tale fantasy/horror, but it's nice to work broadly when I can.

In the same way one felt a connection to divinity in a church or a temple, he felt the same connection to life and death. Harry was thinking about heightened states of reality, and how people entered them and how he was in one now. He wasn’t sure he’d ever leave it. Was there anything to go back to? Most of his life felt dull, weightless and unimportant, thousands of hours spent doing things that really didn’t matter outside of the moment he did them. This mattered though. He savored it, every second of existence with purpose. It was the sweetest drug his brain could produce, it was coursing through every cell of him, telling him that he was alive and there was no coming back from this. The heart monitor was what brought him out of his jubilation. It was screaming at him, screaming accusations, telling him what he knew. “This is your death as well Harry.” It said. “When you leave this room you’ll die. There isn’t any coming back from this. Killing her isn’t going to save you.” Harry stood, body numb and unwilling to move, and watched as the one thing that gave his life meaning died.

These are some photos of my homestead from last winter. We haven't got as much snow yet this year, which is nice for practical reasons but less pretty.
