He’d had some successful records, and he wanted to make a statement in the jazz world. That meant the jazz giants: Sun Ra, Cecil, Max Roach, Dizzy, Art Blakey, Gerry Mulligan, and Stan Getz. When he told me what he wanted, I said, “You know, I lost an awful lot of money doing that. I see where you're coming from aesthetically, but they fired me for my aesthetics and for not making money. The lesson I learned was if you don't make money for these guys, like right away, you don't get a chance to do what you think is right. You've got to make money before you can be aesthetically correct. If you're aesthetically correct and you lose money, you will not get to second base.” Steve said, "I can make one pop record, have a hit, and that'll take care of all of this." "Okay," I said. Of course, sooner or later they got rid of him and discontinued the series. In the meantime, though, we got to make some awfully nice records. [18] [18] Nevertheless, Ralbovsky did all right. He subsequently helped develop the careers of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Strokes, and Ray LaMontagne.

Over the last several years, Cook County has seen a dramatic decrease in crime, due in part to a $350 million investment in violence prevention from the county, city, and state since 2020. Simultaneously, the number of people incarcerated in Cook County Jail was reduced by 40% over the last decade. However, the budgets of both the Cook County Sheriff and State’s Attorney have continuously increased; since 2016, the Sheriff’s budget has grown by $300 million and the State’s Attorney’s budget has doubled. Meanwhile, the responsibilities of both offices have significantly decreased. It is clear that this practice of annually increasing investments in these offices must stop and their budgets should be reduced.

The strict controls include measures that prohibit the US companies from restricting how an array of Israeli government agencies, security services and military units use their cloud services. According to the deal’s terms, the companies cannot suspend or withdraw Israel’s access to its technology, even if it’s found to have violated their terms of service. Israeli officials inserted the controls to counter a series of anticipated threats. They feared Google or Amazon might bow to employee or shareholder pressure and withdraw Israel’s access to its products and services if linked to human rights abuses in the occupied Palestinian territories. They were also concerned the companies could be vulnerable to overseas legal action, particularly in cases relating to the use of the technology in the military occupation of the West Bank and Gaza.
