Democracies are so strong that they allow people to criticize democracy. In fact, the ability to do so is an essential quality of democracy. Authoritarians are so weak they don't allow people to criticize authoritarians. Silencing dissent is an essential quality of authoritarian regimes.

If you think a bunch of conspiracy theorists will look at evidence an then say “oh, we were wrong” then you don’t know how conspiracy theories working. Having actual evidence they can misrepresent is key to building the conspiracy theory.
So...... this seems real bad.

The FBI executed a sealed search warrant today on a key Atlanta area election office - and wouldn't say what that warrant was for.

"A source told FOX the FBI was there to take custody of Fulton County election ballots from 2020."

Excellent by Adam Serwer.

I’d add: How many pseudo-deep commentators, typically MAGA-excusing, go on about liberalism’s lack of community, character, and moral virtue? Then MN features a truly striking demonstration of just these qualities by modern liberals. Reaction: crickets.
"The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone."
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

Levitsky and Ziblatt remind us that political systems are designed to solve problems, not exacerbate them. Yet in some democracies today, winner-take-all systems are empowering authoritarian minorities and undermining democratic legitimacy.

Full steam ahead friends!
Tyrants never surrender power willingly.
The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.
