Prior to ReSET, Reilly was a baker in a Michelin star restaurant and a waitress in Time Out’s #1 restaurant 2024. Back in Canada, she was a tree planter - living in a tent for 4 months without signal or internet! These experiences culminate in a rich repertoire of stories. She’s got endless!🍞🌲📵

Reilly’s favourite part of ReSET is how dynamic it is! Always keeping things interesting whilst building new skills. Currently, she’s working on a qualitative paper whilst growing our steady ReSET TikTok fame! Allowing her to hone her research skills and maintain her creative passions.

We joke that Alex is our resident celebrity, bolstering our social media from the large network he has cultivated. However, Alex didn't always want to work in research (gasp!) - wanting to be a marine biologist focusing on sharks. Ultimately, he went for a safer (albeit less exotic) career!🦈🌴🐟

Alex uses methods from diverse backgrounds, including experimental psychology (necessary for task design), computer science (for developing cognitive models of participant task performance), and Patient & Public Involvement (to work with young people and ensure our intervention is relevant to them).

Bullying remains a cultural phenomenon that tracks back far longer than expected. Despite its longevity in society’s awareness, there is still plenty to learn about what drives adolescent bullying and, more importantly, how to prevent it.

Make sure to wear your odd socks!🧦

However, both René and Lucy voiced uncertainty on the programmes likelihood of working within secondary settings, where social politics, hormones and wider-than-school issues come into play.

Lucy provided insight on the effectiveness of anti-bullying initiatives (KiVa) within 100+ UK primary schools. It was found that KiVa contributed to a 13% reduction in bullying victimisation (yay!) and that this did not differ by age, sex or eligibility for Free School Meals (double yay!).

René kicked us off by showing data that bullying could be an adaptive behaviour to establish popularity during the first weeks of school. However, whilst the popularity remains other pupils’ perception of how much they like these popular bullies decreases over time.

However, this short synopsis by no means conveys the complexities of conducting co-production appropriately – so read it yourself for a more nuanced insight!!⬇️

The piece comments on involving young people in the decision-making – a concept ReSET upholds through our “no decision about me, without me” motto. The blog also discusses approaches for handling this ethically from a young person’s perspective whilst ensuring it is mutually beneficial.🤗💭

This blog, led by Tara Ramsay-Patel, delves deeper into co-production by having four young people reflect on their time contributing to the “Speaking Across Lines” symposia held earlier this year as part of the ReThink Project, with contributions by Jeongeun Park, Bethan Carter and Eva Sprecher.

The conference may be over, but ReSET is not! We continue to look for opportunities to push our work further and welcome the voices of those that make that possible. Keep tuned over the coming months… 👀

Thank you again to Lala for the lovely content that we can happily reflect.😆

The addition of our enthusiastic attendees from various organisations in the education, research, policy and charity sectors coming together truly made the event one to remember. 🧠

A special thank you goes to the talented Lala, whose photography skills perfectly captured the friendly nature of the event (as you can see), Andre (The Mental Elf) who's quippy takes were live posted, as well as Gina and the other Anna Freud staff who truly made the event flow without issue! 💪
