As Hanukkah begins, I’m wishing peace, light, and comfort to all who are observing. In the aftermath of the antisemitic attack at a Hanukkah celebration in Australia, I would like to remind our Jewish communities that I stand in solidarity with them, both here in Pittsburgh and around the world.

Last week, I traveled to Elk County to kick off the 2025-26 hunting season with Hunters Sharing the Harvest. HSH delivers hundreds of thousands of pounds of venison to our charitable food network annually – more than any other wild game donation program in the nation.

It’s disgraceful it took Republican leaders in the state Senate over 134 days to finish the job, but they have finally reached a compromise on a bipartisan budget. In a divided legislature, no one gets everything they want. While there were many missed opportunities, there is also much to celebrate.

After over four months, the state budget impasse has ended, with the General Assembly delivering a budget that boosts public school funding by hundreds of millions of dollars, provides historic investments in anti-hunger programs, and creates a new tax credit for nearly 1 million Pennsylvanians.
