🔧 Please note that my office will be closing early at 3:30 p.m. this Friday, October 24 for office maintenance.
The state cannot fill the hunger gaps left by the erasure of federal #SNAP funding. However, we absolutely could and should increase funding for our state level anti-hunger programs like the State Food Purchase Program (SFPP) and the Pennsylvania Agricultural Surplus System (PASS) in the #PABudget.
For those who rely on SNAP, this isn’t an inconvenience. It’s an emergency. Even worse, PA Senate Republicans are refusing to pass the state budget and stonewalling the limited ways our state General Assembly could act to help feed these families.
Nearly 2 million Pennsylvanians will not receive SNAP benefits in November because of the federal government shutdown driven entirely by Republicans in control of the White House and Congress. Until a federal budget is passed, ~$366 million in SNAP funds that PA receives every month will disappear.

Rob and I had a wonderful time at Riverview Park Day! The weather was beautiful, the community spirit was strong, and it was great to connect with so many of our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table to say hello!
🗳️ Are you planning to vote on November 4?

We discussed the difficulties facing our communities when it comes to housing, food insecurity, public transit, and more. Thanks to NHCO and everyone in our community working to lift up our neighbors!
I was pleased to sit on a panel with Rep. Lindsay Powell and Rep. Arvind Venkat at North Hills Community Outreach’s annual leadership breakfast, where local leaders and nonprofits shared the real challenges they are facing, from housing and food insecurity to funding barriers.

As part of this effort, the Capitol fountain is dyed pink in October—a visible symbol of our shared commitment to raising #breastcancerawareness.

🩷 Each October, my colleagues and I gather at the Capitol for #BreastCancerAwarenessMonth to honor survivors, support those currently fighting, and remember loved ones lost to breast cancer. It is also a time to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and stand united in hope of a cure.
Proud to stand with them & defend their right to organize a #union alongside Reps. Aerion Abney, Dan Miller, Joe McAndrew, and John Inglis, Sen. Lindsey Williams, Pittsburgh City Controller Rachael Heisler, and staff from the offices of Rep. Mandy Steele and Congresswoman Summer Lee #unionstrong
🪧 Today I joined the striking workers from Greco Steel, who have voted to unionize but with whom the owner will not negotiate or even acknowledge the union.
To become law, these bills must also be passed by the state Senate and then approved by the governor.
