A photo showing the heads and necks of three lesser flamingos. They're pink on a blurred green background. You can see straight through the nares of the flamingo in the front. Lesser flamingoes are the smallest and most abundant flamingo species. They are native to Africa, with some smaller breeding colonies extending up into Asia. Their primary breeding ground is Lake Natron- a lake so hot, salty, and alkaline that it is well known to calcify the bodies of any animals that die there. Lesser flamingos love it, though, because the cyanobacteria they prefer to eat is well adapted to the lake, and the caustic water protects their nests from predators. Soon after chicks hatch, they join creches, groups of up to 100,000 chicks. These are guided by a handful of adults, who take them on their first journey to freshwater. Much like a preschool, they spend lots of time learning how to be a flamingo among their peers and under the watchful eyes of their adults.

This cutie is one of my favorite owls. The burrowing owl is native to the Americas, and full of personality. There are a lot of species of burrowing owls but some of them even migrate which is pretty rare for owls! #BurrowingOwl #WildlifePhotography #BirdWatching #Nature #Owl #BirdsOfPrey

A 7" by 7" watercolor from my sketchbook. The pallet is a strong yellow, red leaning purple, medium blue, and white. There is a black horizon of trees painted loosely with a gradient purple to blue then yellow gradient, the yellow starts where the sun would be near the horizon just to the right of center and fades out. Theres water on the bottom half of the painting reflecting the trees and sky, suggested by loose dashes of paint in varying colors corresponding with what they're reflecting.

One of the most common mushrooms you see on logs around the world. They're not poisonous but also not tasty. Some believe they have properties to protect from cancer. I've never bothered to learn my local species as there are so many.
More than a dozen turkey tail mushrooms growing on a log. You can see the soft white mycelium growing in addition to the clam shaped mushrooms which are banded in warm neutral colors. They feel a bit rubbery when fresh, a couple millimeters thin and 1-10cm wide. They smell earthy and sweet like most mushrooms smell.
