Wait, what? My son’s friend, traveling in China, is staying at a hotel chain called ‘James Joyce Coffetel’, and instead of a Gideon Bible, they leave a copy of Ulysses by the bedside.

Soon to be streaming on Netflix.
Lastly, we get to ‘Donner’ and ‘Blitzen.’

‘Donner’ was originally ‘Donder,’ which is Standard Dutch meaning “thunder.”

‘Blitzen’ comes from the Standard Dutch ‘bliksem,’ which means “lightning.”

We've always thought these two were the bad boys of the sleigh.

Kudos to Stephen Colbert on his Emmy win last night. It was a pleasure chatting with him a few weeks ago on The Late Show about how rampant inequality has brought us to this moment in American history — and what we can do to fix our politics.

Absolutely the most cat thing I've ever heard.
Installed a gate to prevent the cat from getting into the office but he's slipped through while I installed it and I can't find the clasp bit that releases the gate so turns out I have in fact locked myself out of the office while he chills inside

Keep speaking out!

Recently, 21 medical & public health organizations demanded Kennedy resign, citing his efforts to undermine science and public health.

His own family is doing the same.

This strongly worded tweet by Joe Kennedy III echoes many sentiments.

Some solid advice on how to appreciate modern art from the Chicago Record Herald of 1913: "HOW TO APPRECIATE IT - Eat three welsh rarebits, smoke two pipefuls of "hop" and sniff cocaine until every street car looks like a goldfish and the Masonic Temple resembles a tiny white mouse."

Okay, where’s my Elderly White Hippie t-shirt? Ready to order same day delivery.
Stephen Miller: "All these demonstrators that you've seen out here in recent days, all these elderly white hippies, they're not part of the city and never have been ... we're gonna ignore these stupid white hippies that all need to go home and take a nap because they're all over 90 years old."

ICE used your taxpayer dollars to trick out a bunch of trucks in new livery, all painted black with "ICE" and a logo printed in gold on the side (and Trump's name in gold on the back window), then shoot a rap video in DC to post on social media.

I am not making this up.

Yes!
The first time Charlie Chaplin used his voice in a film, he wielded it to forcefully condemn the rising forces of fascism around the globe. Will we listen to his words today?

This is my philosophy in a nutshell:

Expertise good!
Technocracy bad!
1. "'Trusting the experts is not a feature of either a science or democracy," Kennedy said."

It's literally a vital feature of both science and of representative democracy.

I've written a fair bit about trust in expertise as a vital mechanism in the collective epistemology of science.
RFK Jr. in interview with Scripps News: ‘Trusting the experts is not science’
HHS Secretary RFK Jr. sat down with Scripps News for a wide-ranging interview, discussing mRNA vaccine funding policy changes and a recent shooting at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
