I don't think it is as black and white as Shields makes it to be, but I generally agree. I think stuff is the funniest when it is rooted in some real life scenario. #realityhunger

I agree with this. I've noticed that sometimes I remember things that didn't happen and were just made up in my mind. I think it was because I wasn't paying attention, and when I tried to recall, my mind just filled in the blanks. #realityhunger

Reminds me of the thought experiment, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" #realityhunger

I never thought about it this way. We don't really experience reality, but our perception of it. It is never objective because we always have our own biases. #realityhunger

I guess the way that Shields's says that makes it seem like a bad thing, but not necessarily. I think realism in art can capture some positive emotions as well, but the meaning comes from the viewer of it. #realityhunger

This reminds me of Descartes's "I think, therefore I am." We have no idea if anything we experience is "real," but we are aware of our own existence.

This has got me thinking about what we take as truth. Does truth even exist, or are we all just making it up as we go? For example, in math, there are certain unproven axioms that we use in higher math. So is math based on a lie?

Didn't expect to see Curb Your Enthusiasm here. And I agree with Shield's claim about the show. #realityhunger.

"Media, by altering the environment, evoke in us unique ratios of sense perceptions. The extension of any one sense alters the way we think and act- the way we perceive the world." (The Medium is the Massage, pg. 25)

Great ending picture. It is almost like a TLDR and clears up some misconceptions in the book. I definitely had a difficult time reading this book, however, this last comic helps clear up some stuff. #TMITM

This image reminds me of the raising of Chicago where thousands of jackscrews lifted entire city blocks so that new foundations could be built under them. Modern day Chicago is still built on top of those foundations. #TMITM

Real. I think we are all desensitized to things happening all over the world, good and bad. It doesn't help that people get richer by exploiting anger and fear. The most rational reaction to it all is to stop caring about it. #TMITM

I like this artwork. It reminds me of when i had to learn about vanishing points to draw out a diagram of something. I never thought about how the observer is not really in the frame of experience, especially with one vanishing point. And I agree with that last sentence. We are so caught...

"All media are extensions of some human faculty—psychic or physical. (page 18)" McLuhan says this and then attaches a picture of a wheel. Is he referring to the wheel as the extension? How is that media? #TMITM

I feel like McLuhan wanted this to be a mic-drop moment but I don't think it is coming across clearly at least for me. That being said, I generally get his sentiment and agree. #TMITM

When I saw this, my mind was screaming social media algorithms. Everything is changing because of them. They are like a more primitive version of GPT since they reflect what you want to see to make the platform as addictive as possible, like what we described GPT doing to our voice. #TMITM
