This experience was strange because it forced me to think about contracts and behaviors I do without even noticing. When I started, I remember telling GPT about how I mispronounce my name to make it easier for others to pronounce, and it struck me how stubbornly it followed that thought.

I don't think it is as black and white as Shields makes it to be, but I generally agree. I think stuff is the funniest when it is rooted in some real life scenario. #realityhunger

"Every artistic movement from the beginning of time is an attempt to figure out a way to smuggle more of what the artist thinks is reality into the work of art."

I guess? But abstract art doesn't really tend to represent reality, so I am not too sure if I agree with Shields here. #realityhunger

I agree with this. I've noticed that sometimes I remember things that didn't happen and were just made up in my mind. I think it was because I wasn't paying attention, and when I tried to recall, my mind just filled in the blanks. #realityhunger

Reminds me of the thought experiment, "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?" #realityhunger

I think Shields believes that selection is a creative act because it changes external things into personal expression. #realityhunger

"I've always had a hard time writing fiction. It feels like driving a car in a clown suit."

Real. I think trying to write fiction is hard because it doesn't necessarily need to be realistic, so whatever I write can be ridiculous. It is an insecurity when it comes to my writing. #realityhunger

I think genre collapse is the breaking down of the distinction between fiction and non-fiction. Shields argues this is a good thing because it limits the artist less. #realityhunger

I like how Shields portrays his information and argument in a digestible way. Although I sometimes have trouble following his argument, I find it easier than McLuhan to follow along. #realityhunger

I think Shields is trying to say that reality is not a fixed or objective thing but is a fragmented experience that is constantly altered by our memories. #realityhunger
February 14, 2026 at 9:37 PM
I never thought about it this way. We don't really experience reality, but our perception of it. It is never objective because we always have our own biases. #realityhunger
February 14, 2026 at 9:24 PM
I guess the way that Shields's says that makes it seem like a bad thing, but not necessarily. I think realism in art can capture some positive emotions as well, but the meaning comes from the viewer of it. #realityhunger

This reminds me of Descartes's "I think, therefore I am." We have no idea if anything we experience is "real," but we are aware of our own existence.

Like McLuhan's book, I am having trouble following Shields's work. Despite the seemingly organized nature, I sometimes find that I don't understand what he is saying. #realityhunger

This has got me thinking about what we take as truth. Does truth even exist, or are we all just making it up as we go? For example, in math, there are certain unproven axioms that we use in higher math. So is math based on a lie?

Didn't expect to see Curb Your Enthusiasm here. And I agree with Shield's claim about the show. #realityhunger.

My primary takeaway is that we will co-create with AI in SME 1. We are going to play around with the prompts and answer them based on the character they are playing at that moment. #primarytakeaway

Dr. Dumit thinks that co-thinking and creating with AI is exciting and limitless, but there is a risk that it would do the thinking for us and not challenge our views. #joesopinion

I think he is explaining how AI roleplays with the user. We want it to act a certain way so we get a certain type of response from it. Using the meta prompt will help us get a higher-quality response. #helpfulassistant

I don't like that everything, like Google and other browsers are starting to use AI. While it is a helpful tool, the water and energy it uses for one prompt is insane. I try not use it as much anymore. #joeandashley

I never thought that LLMs were ever roleplaying. I kinda just imagined them as predicting the next word. However, now that I am thinking about it, I do notice that it behaves differently if I tell it that it is a character. #joeandashley

I agree with Dr. Dumit. LLMs like ChatGPT are notoriously yes-men and can be made to believe or do anything by prompting them in different ways. #joeandashley

I'm still a little confused as to what the narrator was trying to say. I think she is talking about her childhood, but I feel like I might not be getting the full picture. #atmospherestudy

This audio helped me understand that we can progress a story purely through audio. The moment when it transitioned from outside by the sea to inside a diner, with the volume of cutlery increasing, was really well done imo. #atmospherestudy
