What's even worse is when you try to do some things legally with a tiny company as we are now, you get screwed left, right & centre just trying to keep people in jobs.

It would almost be easier to bust the company and get a shell company to buy the assets for £1.

Utter joke.

That would mean all the rich political backers would have a lot of problems.

Ain't happening 🤦‍♂️

Regrettably, due to slack UK company law, it isn't going to happen unless it can be proved that they withdrew the money from Medpro illegally.

Even then the capital sum would likely not be repayable. Just tax evasion charges.

Of course they knew all this.... Hence the shell companies.

We have no "street". Just a track. Makes life interesting 🤣

Go read a Linux feed.

Plenty of action available.
December 20, 2025 at 10:05 AM
Jeez that's poor.
December 20, 2025 at 10:03 AM
Not too mention M$ purposefully bribing & bullying companies not too make it easy, or develop alternative arch.

"You wouldn't want to lose access too, or licensing for, or lose your subsidy" or whatever todays thing is.

"Linux" doesn't have a cash rich monopoly behind it to force such things.

Still no stats then?

Just a pretentious fanbois opinion?

Thanks for your rant.

Clearly I'm not entitled to either experience, or an opinion (fuck systemd too), but I'm happy not to be a sheep.

That is open source, but you are too much of a dickhead to realise.

Wind yer neck in.

Pedant note.

It's mainly open source.

Not the same as "free".

Devs gotta eat somehow.... Do we all work for nothing?

So it can't all be "free".

But agree on the principle - give it a go.

Very odd!!

We use FF from the PPA but never noticed that much delay.

But we have snaps permanently removed so hard to compare.

Interested to see what you find.

Probably depends on the data therein, drive size, RAM & HP?

I guess a clean install windoze with contiguous blocks should be faster than a used one with stuff splattered all over?

(I have no OS preference 🤣🤣🤣)
December 19, 2025 at 12:03 AM
What, Canonical forcing you to use snaps?

I don't believe it.... 🤣🤣

Any traces of the calls to sites it makes in startup?

That would be the first thing to check?

Reminds me of the "display" issue I fixed today.

Wasn't Linux.
Wasn't the card.
Wasn't the monitor.
Wasn't the driver.

It was someones shite packaging that broke.

"Dependency hell". Grrrr.

Still on X11..... :-)
December 18, 2025 at 11:56 PM
Silent majority?

Like to see your stats on that.

The world is being force pushed to Wayland and given no real choice

Personally we'll be sticking with X until such time as I am confident Wayland is not just a Gnome devs wet dream. Had more than my fill of that lot.

Gnome 3 release killed it 🤦‍♂️

Spend a year testing & learning.

It takes time (how long to become a Windows 'expert'?). Don't try & rush.

It's also more about apps than OS.

Start using some crossplatform eg Firefox/Thunderbird/Libreoffice.

What won't run at all in Linux (Adobe...)? Alternatives? VMs?

Focus on that.
