haha yeah, I think with no Ghibli it would get much more difficult. perhaps some classic comedies. or twin peaks? there are at least a few episodes of twin peaks that I watched 10+ times

the one is used by real people while the other is infested with bots and ai slop. I guess there is no way to tell the difference and so we should proclaim both “echo chambers”.

these observations are hitting so close to home they start damaging the walls. it feels weird to experience this is in your late 30s, but I might be having a genuine life-changing revelation about why certain things went the way they did in my life.

Pentangle are amazing! their music is so rich with complex rhytm and brilliant melodies. I believe they sound contemporary because great folk music is just eternally relevant

yet their own politics that are essentially same as nazism are NOT seen that way and never will be in the current political ideology. not globally and not in the US. even in the face of their own quotes it will alway be “well, it’s not so black and white etc” while in fact this is all clear as day.

also, the way people compare that regime to nazism doesn’t work as well. the thing about nazism is that on almost all sides of political spectrum there has always been broad consensus that nazism was bad. even now, even Trump cannot publicly say smth like “Hitler was right in starting the Holocaust”

working on my own now is extremely liberating for this very reason. there is nothing to integrate into, I just do my work when I need and go on about my life. it helps that I like what I am currently doing, but even not considering that it’s way much better.

“I’ve never believed in the term work-life balance,” says Morris … “I call it work-life integration”

that phrase sent chills down my spine. imagine your life integrated into a giant corporate machine.

I watched “Nil by mouth” recently and I understood much more from the Japanese subtitles than from the dialogues and yet it was one the most realistic depictions of people talking to each other or themselves that I ever saw. grim but very strong film

fwiw, I do that about once every 1-2 weeks with one of the bakeries where I live (because they make the best bread in town) and a bit less regular in one of the pubs here (because they have best beer). if I lived closer to mizunokuchi I would swing by once a week as well!
