Currently reading Ring (the book that inspired Ringu (the movie that inspired The Ring)) and it’s mildly amusing that in writing a novel that at the time would have felt very modern, Koji Suzuki created something that today would no doubt be considered analogue horror.

Another thousand words on the trench story today--went to the cafe like I used to. Bit nostalgic; I had to stop writing there because it was a costly habit and I was running out of savings. Glad to have an income again, though at the cost of too much energy and time. #writing

Wrote a thousand words just now. Short story. It occurred to me that there isn't enough horror set in the trenches of WWI, which I think is an ideal setting for such things, so I'm rectifying that in the only way I can. Here's the first line, which I think sells the tone quite well:

It’s not fair; I finally after months of dabbling have a working prototype of a game that I think could really be something with everything done but the details of the story… and suddenly all I want to work on is the novel I was using all this gamedev to take a breather from.

Brain please.

Brought me right back to when I first posted Metaphor essay and shared it in a discord I’m no longer in and like five seconds afterwards someone was like “bro you gotta take the politics out immediately the algorithm hates politics”
I always like when people are like "I hate how political your videos are now" and I'm like this was my FIRST VIDEO

I’ve been doing some writing again recently and the subject also came up in the book I’m reading (Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, very good, do rec), so let’s have a little thread about #writing advice. For old times’ sake.

My hot take is that sharing Youtube (or any website) recaps at the end of the year is normie behaviour but I *was* in the top 3% of @barrykramer.bsky.social viewers this year. So that’s neat.

Ah yes, just have the LLM do form validation for you. Surely it wouldn't ever hallucinate or get something wrong and is reliable in all circumstances. And obviously requiring an API call to another service you have no control over for your form to work is just good practice.
Things like state names fall into the same category. Consider the following simple query, which works fine in both ChatGPT and Claude:

> Print all correct spellings of the following word as a simple list with no other text. Californya.

So Gmail's feeding your email into their ai now... wouldn't this potentially be a really easy way to poison its training data? Just set up a few dummy gmail accounts and write a script that sends gibberish between them? Open source the script and get people to run it in the background?

Nice?

And not evil?

And not packed to bursting with bad AI crap?

And almost everything I normally use runs on it so far?
