They named the Streisand Effect after me.
So. Rankings so far, having reached the end of the Predator movies:

1) Predator
2) Predators
3) Prey
4) Alien Vs Predator
5) Predator 2
6) Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem
7) The Predator

Ugh. I'd say I need a cleanse, but next up is Prometheus. We're going to the future!

But the cherry on top is the autistic child. The script seems to think that autism = magical genius powers, suggesting the research stopped at a crib sheet for Rain Man and went no further.

It's gross, offensive and stupid. I will probably never watch this again in my life.

The final act has a sequence where since Predating happens in the woods, but it's entirely tacked-on and serves no purpose but to thin out the cast ready for the ending.

And then there's the mental health angle. Depression, PTSD, Tourettes and more appear, none of them portrayed well.

My theory is that most of the script was originally not intended to be a Predator film, but retrofitted to become one. Apart from the look of the baddies and their gimmicks, there's nothing particularly pred-like about the story.

Okay. Reached the end. Not sure what else to say, except to reiterate: this is possibly the most incompetent film I think I've seen.

No action or line follows on from another. Characters give exposition they can't possibly know. Nothing makes sense, nobody acts like a person.

I almost admire this film for its absolute ineptitude.

Almost.

Because there's its treatment of mental health, autism in particular, and it's utterly reprehensible.

I almost like this film for being so utterly broken and incompetent. The script appears to have been pieced back together at random after being through a shredder, absolutely no longer out action seems to follow on from another.

It also has Keegan Michael Key in it. Sadly being his least funny.

Hoo boy. Everyone said that this movie was bad, but I didn't expect it to be this incredibly dumb.

Also it was the murder-dentist from Brooklyn 99.

Okay, genuinely funny.

I'm only 8 minutes into The Predator, and so far:

1) Again a Pred demonstrated they CANNOT help themselves around humans, and immediately strung one up to skin them.
2) The Pred showed up when blood covered them in their invisibility cloak.
3) I think the murder-dentist from Brooklyn 99 is in it?

Anyway. I suppose the true Predators was the friends we made along the way.

Also, while Laurence Fishburne is great in anything, it's especially good seeing him play against type as an actual crazy person, rather than the level headed wise sort you're used to from things like Event Horizon, the Matrix and... wait, Ant-Man 2? He was in that? Huh.
November 14, 2025 at 8:18 PM
So while there aren't THAT many Predators (alien ones at least) the stakes of the action do still feel higher. The Preds have got more interesting tactics at their disposal (and it's said that this is where they develop them), so you're not stuck just with knives and shoulder-guns the whole time.

Perhaps the core idea "Maybe man is the real Predators" isn't exactly high-concept, but it gives a fun time exploring the parallels in the behaviour of the humans with those of the Preds.

It also means that the title doesn't quite deliver if you're expecting the same Alien-Aliens escalation though.

I'm increasingly of the opinion that these dual franchises are both at their best when they're reinventing, rather than repeating.

Predators isn't exactly that, since the actual plot follows the same lines as P1, but it has new and interesting things to say about the situation, so it works.

Yup, Predators was pretty darn good. It manages to iterate and build on the formula, and explore new ways to keep the core concept fresh.

I'm not sure I ever truly bought Adrian Brody as a badass, but he's a good enough actor to work it nonetheless.

So far I'm enjoying Predators, having reached the midpoint. Seems to thread the needle of familiarity and originality pretty well, the cast is good, it's been a decent ride so far.

Can't help but feeling if this was made today it would DEFINITELY have Idris Elba in it.
