June 1st is World Milk Day (June is Milk Month in Japan). This is a chance for those of us in dairy to display how proud we to be in an industry what provides vital nutrition and supports livelihoods and local economies. About 1 billion people around the world rely on dairy for their livelihoods.

三浦按針 William Adams' (aka John Blackthorne) former place of business was near Nihonbashi. There is a marker that is easy to miss and a street named for him but not marked. Seems like a bit more marketing could be expended on this.

I love this tree - it is most beautiful in the winter. Oshima Island can be seen in the distance. (cell phone picture from a walk in the hills near my home)

The autumn colors of these ginkgo trees at my local temple are fantastic with the tree on the left tagged and numbered by the prefecture. Just a few cell phone shots. 勝福寺 小田原 Shofukuji Temple (established in the Nara Era, relocated to current location in 830 CE or AD)

At the end of last year, I went to an Irish cheese event in Tokyo - held at an Irish Pub naturally. Needless to say, great beer, great cheese.

Pretty combination of temple gate and belfry. Does anyone have a definitive answer about the relationship between the Hojo family kamon and the Triforce in The Legend of Zelda video game? Are they related? Just coincidence? Not sure if I should believe what I have seen online. Jochiji Temple 浄智寺 鎌倉

During the holiday season Lawson promoted milk, hot milk and milk containing products to help the dairy farmers who typically suffer during school breaks (and no school milk sales).

Entrance to a 13th century temple in Kamakura, one of the original 5 mountains of Zen Buddhism. If the stairs were nice and straight, it wouldn't feel right. Jochiji Temple 浄智寺 Kamakura 鎌倉
