/2 "to show that gerrymandering is racist rather than merely partisan the challenger has to offer race-neutral partisan alternatives" is relatively new despicable shit, and "a state gerrymandering based on a president's explicit written demand for racial gerrymandering is presumed cool" is fresh.

/4 SCOTUS has lost the presumption of regularity -- the mandate of the legal heavens -- through its shadow docket actions, which by invoking SCOTUS' equitable discretionary powers have obliterated the pretext that SCOTUS is merely calling balls and strikes, merely calling lines where they see them.

It's good—very good, and very important—that district courts keep issuing these 100-page rulings upholding the law. It must be incredibly dispiriting to see them overturned in a two-page, lawless, unsigned order, but please, keep them coming. They expose SCOTUS' corruption like nothing else.

If there was one thing I would have thought the current Supreme Court majority was against, it would be assigning voters to districts based on race. But today's Texas decision seems to veer into a "eh, it happens" mode. /1

There are specific reasons Trumpists want war on Venezuela, but there‘s a generic one: they crave power to make war on anyone, any time, for completely fabricated reasons, and then to use the guise of war to increase violence and repression everywhere, including home.

They are lawless bestial scum.

The president is about to start a war for no real reason. All of the things he has blamed on the country he’s targeting — fentanyl distribution, “emptying the asylums” and sending patients to the U.S., alignment with Tren de Aragua— are provably, obviously false.

Lots of people are going to die.

The endless saga continues: Bigger news outlet pretends it's breaking a story that was reported earlier by someone else, often a solo publisher.

It's grossly unethical -- and it's so common that journalists take it for granted. They should take the honorable path […]

I've been fanboy of technology for decades. All those years of following and writing about it never changed that.

But while I could always appreciate, and often celebrate, the achievements of some of the people who created things, I was never a fan of their industry. Its growth and power came […]

#rationalwiki is now back and functioning without any significant outages for 3 days. 503 errors were apparently caused by an actor on #Alibaba Cloud doing scraping for #AI, and also affected other sites that were unprotected and unable to handle the #DDoS load.

This is completely disgusting. Today, the CDC updated their vaccine safety page. It now says:

“The claim "vaccines do not cause autism" is not an evidence-based claim because studies have not ruled out the possibility that infant vaccines cause autism”.
