You could also potentially make the end pieces with attached short rectangular sections (like 1-2in) and then have however many middle rectangles you need for the respective size.

That way you don’t have to fiddle with sewing the hook and loop onto the curve.

Would snap tape work for hook and loop to chain the rectangles together for the modular size? That would have the same easy open aspect but without catching on fur risk.
