Couple of shots from recent turns at Chinnor. Had a few as trainee second man on the bubble, 47715 and 08825 and sat my signalman’s reassessment. Got a cleaner turn coming up this weekend as well as a few turns at our upcoming steam gala! @chinnorrailway.bsky.social

It has been 9 years since I began to volunteer at Chinnor. I was 17 then, and now at 26 I’m very proud of how far I’ve gone. I’ve gained great confidence from it and even made lifelong friends from it. Wouldn’t change a bit @chinnorrailway.bsky.social

Some miscellaneous items I thought may be useful are also included below, plus a nice photo I took of 6412 next to Chinnor Box in September 2021 with an Auto Trailer. Any questions feel free to ask! Even with over 5 years qualified experience, I too am learning all the time in this role

And absolutely important, be sure to send the appropriate bell codes if your box is fitted with telegraphic equipment and be sure to record timings, bells, etc in the train register

When working the box, always be ready to anticipate what needs to happen next. For example train is ready to leave; ensure the road is correctly set and appropriate signals are off, then you can deliver the token to the loco. Place a rag over the lever you are going to use next to remind you

Of course, first thing to do is retrieve the Signalbox keys and sign on. Then, as well as testing the various equipment like track circuit diagrams, telegraph bells and phones (SPT and landline) I personally make sure to test some points and signals to ensure they are functioning correctly 2/?

I’ve been meaning to do a “how to” guide into signalling for a few years now but never managed to finish it. This thread won’t be as comprehensive as I intended the guide to be, but more of a concise overview for anyone looking to go down that path. Using Chinnor and PRNB as references 1/?
