Cofounder @dreamwidth.org / disabled queer cat lady / running social media since before it was "social media" and Trust & Safety since the dawn of time / do not cite the deep magic to me, I wrote it / no, I'm allergic to that, too
And usually it comes from me griping about a thing and someone going "wait, what, that's not just me?", heh

Right?! It's FASCINATING, I just wish I had to know less of it for self-preservation reasons, heh

(Or rather, because all of my symptoms can also be COVID symptoms! I just had MCAS before the most common cause was long COVID!)
December 5, 2025 at 1:38 PM
Postviral maybe, long COVID, no! (I occasionally get people telling me about long COVID who literally don't believe me that I haven't had COVID. Yes, I know asymptomatic infections exist, that's why we have a home PCR machine and I run regular tests even without symptoms.)

It's been a day!

My trick for "it will be bad if I scratch this itch" is borrowed from the tattoo artist who did my first tattoo, who advised that lightly slapping it will confuse the nerves enough to stop the itch, heh. This sometimes results in me looking very odd in public...

I'm pretty sure it's considered a form of dermatographia, if you need the keyword for further searching!

The status of third party moderation under 47 USC §230 (c)(2)(B) is less established in case law than the absolute immunity provided for first party moderation under (c)(2)(A), but I don't see any route to a viable claim anyway, labelers are squarely in the remit of the (B) caselaw we do have

Oh hey, always great to find someone else who knows them!
December 5, 2025 at 1:06 PM
The cryptographic community's refusal to change that term is so freaking irritating
December 5, 2025 at 1:05 PM
Just a stinky old lady cat, heh
December 5, 2025 at 1:03 PM
It's pharmaceutically fascinating! I just wish it were LESS RELEVANT
December 5, 2025 at 1:03 PM
Exactly! "Hey, I have a thing that helps this on me, do you wanna hear about it in case it will work for you too?" goes a long way!
December 5, 2025 at 1:02 PM
This is why I sing the praises of the Chirp wheel so often, because it is the ONLY thing that keeps me from having to shuffle into the chiropractor's every other month at the most!
December 5, 2025 at 1:01 PM
Yes! I will violate those rules sometimes with pointing people towards MCAS just because it's so common (especially post covid) and SO badly understood by doctors, but I always present it as a IF this sounds familiar, you may want to look into it more!

INEVITABLY. There are some tricks you can use for estrogen because it's less dependent on an exact steady amount in your system at a very specific dose rate so you have some leeway to mess with skin prep, but on the whole, AUUUGH WHY.
December 5, 2025 at 12:56 PM
Yeah, it's all deeply fascinating even though the reason I have to learn it is annoying, heh.
December 5, 2025 at 12:54 PM
The pharmacology of it is FASCINATING, I just wish it were less directly relevant, heh.

I was hoping the effect would wear off in ~9-10 months after the donor blood cleared my system the way it does with some food allergies that can sometimes transmit through blood donation, but alas, the immune lesson seems to be permanent, heh
December 5, 2025 at 12:52 PM
I am DEEPLY APPRECIATIVE and thank you very much for donating even if you weren't MY donor, it just *utterly baffled* me at first until I did some reading and figured out what was going on, lol!

Nope :/ the adhesive is part of the very complex design of how the meds are delivered, sigh

Austin Lounge Lizards – The Other Shore
As we reach the twilight hours of our fleeting earthly time / And know we will not see the sun tomorrow / We may think with deep regret of all the things we leave behind / But oh

Yes, but it's always followed by the warbling cry of victory and a cat yeeting herself out of the litterbox at high speed to flee the stench
