i just re-read Kagurabachi (peak fiction) after glimpsing an interview where the author mentioned wanting to empty his drawer of ideas quickly to maintain an intense pace (and boy is it intense (peak fiction!!!)

cant properly explain it yet but it's like even after you gather all the right ingredients for an engaging, compelling narrative, you still need that last *gestures vaguely* thing that will bring it all together and kickstart the proper experience

and some get there early, some later, some never
