I really like how consistent Araki has been about making the action lines as rain to be Jodio's signature motif. It's not quite as unique as Gappy's bubble, but it gives every illustration he's in that energy.

Like at least when Dave The Diver was nominated for the award in 2023, it felt like someone just fell asleep at the wheel and assumed pixel art meant indie. I don't believe for a second that someone looked at Expedition 33 and said, "Yeah, that looks like an indie game alright."

Even if you take the completely incorrect "it was only made by 30 people" thing that gets repeatedly parroted by people at face value, that's STILL over the bar of what most people would consider independent. Might as well add Donkey Kong: Bananza to the list as well at this point.

I like Rosalina so far. She's missing a bit of that sense of melancholy I associate her with though. Also they made her oddly petite? Maybe it's just the head to body ratio, but she doesn't look like someone who'd be in the same weight class in Mario Kart as Bowser anymore.
