Oh wow! I’ve never seen one of those. I guess it’s a kind of tool, even though it’s called a machine? There’s a similar distinction between, say, a table saw (considered to be machinery) and a hand held saw (considered a tool).

"We'll never have a paywall, but pay us or let us sell your data" Fortunately, if you press "reject all and subscribe" then reload the page, the pop up disappears and you can still read the article. Which makes the whole thing disingenuous and even more irritating.

I made a thing – a cheval glass in cherry with ebony details. It was a delicate object to make, with some complicated geometry for the mortice and tenon joints in the legs and turning dowels from ebony (quite brittle). After a year of house-moving stress, it was nice to get in the workshop again.
