saw Heathers a few days ago and going in, i had this awful fear that this show that i loved as a kid, that i knew more from YouTube animatics than its actual staging, would be much less than i remembered
but nope! still had a blast. cast is great. songs great. audience excitement through the roof.

very tight script that has a lot of fun playing with the conventions of a Predator film. i think my biggest complaint is that the heavy use of CGI often leaves scenes looking pretty flat. very little pops out of the frame.

stranger things kids don't look like kids, but they don't look old either. they look strangely ageless. you could tell me they're anywhere from their early 20s to their late 30s and i would believe you.

pretty close to canon for me. RFK leaves Vietnam, passes a supercharged version of Unruh's FAP while doing integration, and then just obliterates Reagan and Rockefeller as political forces. Entire Dixiecrat movement rendered pointless when George Wallace finishes third in his home state of Alabama.

it’s an age-old contrarian impulse that has taken a new form in the modern era. here’s gustav flaubert complaining about the exact same kind of person in a letter to george sand complaining

ultimately she receded from memory not to due to her horrendous misdeeds, but due to changing aesthetic preferences
she kept afloat by relying on a network of former Nazis that offered her “loans” and selling pieces to Nazi memorabilia collectors, including (potentially) Uganda’s Idi Amin.

despite being wholly unrepentant and ensconced in hitler’s inner circle, troost received a slap on the wrist
she was able to produce records that she helped a few jewish ppl she was personally friendly with, even as she used that same influence to ruin and terrorize others, particularly competitors

gerdy troost—one of hitler’s favorite interior designers and architects—defends herself by insisting she did not see anything outside her studio except “bright and shining eyes and […] the most touching scenes.”
however, she was well-paid, influential. she benefited from concentration camp labor.

interesting detail that i had not quite realized about eva braun is that hitler often required braun to remain “hidden” from many visitors, which led to odd rebellions (such as her photographing said guests from the upper apartments as they stared confused at her)
also more details on renovations

“Comfort in the Great Hall was, in any case, secondary to its main purpose: to impress. In this room, Hitler greeted kings and princes, prime ministers […]. It was where he negotiated with the powers of Europe that stood between him and his vision of a greater German Reich.”

albert speer on how many of hitler’s designs were poor, because while they absorbed much of his time, he lacked an ability to self-edit. as such, many of his renovations veered toward grandiose scale and demonstrated a refusal to accede to practicality

reading about adolf hitler’s renovation of the German Chancellory, which he claimed was decrepit and ill-suited for a Great Power and whose renovations he would pay for out of pocket, without burdening the German taxpayer

there’s a very surreal “through the looking glass” quality to Biden’s Office when you realize it was designed to mimic the Oval of The West Wing, which was itself an idealized version of the Clinton Oval Office

there’s a piece to be written about Oval design and how leaders want to be perceived
LBJ had a very large array of televisions in the Oval bc he both followed and wanted to be seen following the networks. Biden did not want ppl knowing he watched TV and hid his television in his picture frames

personally, the Oval in recent years has become dominated by bright colors and very visible icons of the presidency (the logo-like Great Seal in the carpet)
i tend to prefer the softer, subtler approach of earlier presidents. note that JFK has an impression of the seal that doesn’t draw attention
