Imo anyway, we all basically do this to some degree - unconsciously leverage our highly developed frameworks to process seemingly unrelated things. I think he has a particularly embodied expertise so it could be bodily feedback that he's responding to in order to develop intuition,

Following the LLM development stuff around AI lately, I think it's kind of interesting that when they trained ChatGPT to crunch out computer code, its "natural language" generating capacity also seemed to improve, which I think is probably alluding to a similar phenomenon.

Dunno if we're thinking of the same studies, but the ones I'm thinking of around this stuff mostly posited that these different skills probably use similar neural circuits regarding logic and pattern recognition which leads to skills transfer and intuition development across different domains.

There's so much cool stuff to learn about in the world, and we often make it joyless and boring. I also hated memorizing things as a kid, but I just naturally *remember* stuff if I'm using it/playing around
