If someone asks me why I want to make games I'll just send them this post. Brainticklers for the win 🧠

It's hard to describe, really. If I have to be completely honest, I'm just hardwired to think of a videogame as a piece of art rather than a product in the market, although these two coexist. If you're a community manager, you didn't help develop the game artistically, but as a product you sure did.

I don't think it includes everyone, no. Most of the time, you wouldn't be able to fit a CEO or a community manager in my previous description, but you could fit a writer or a musician, despite none of them being graphic designers or programmers.

A person that actively iterates on any practical AND creative scope of the development process of a video game.

True! I'd argue exploring these creative branches your story presents to you is the best part of the entire process and what makes such process actually enjoyable.

Haven't heard of Excalibur.js before this post, but Typescript and gamedev in the same place feels too inviting to let it pass. I will definitely try it!

Good point too. It's always healthy to reflect on game interactions and player ergonomics as gamedevs. Good luck on your journey 👊🏻

IMO, the best control scheme is the one you grew up on. I have 700 hours into Rocket League using arrows + zx, just because I've been emulating platformers since 2008 and got used to it. Meanwhile, a guy in Europe is playing pro CS using a flight simulator control scheme, because he grew up on it.
