I really hate that I am full of grumpiness and anxiety right now.

Sadly, most of the ideas I have to fix it involve other people, so I expect I will feel like this for at least a few days.

While it isn't the best thing about having Indian yesterday, having cold peshawari naan for breakfast is pretty good.

Today I fixed a program, so it can go back into testing and was told that they had authorized the purchase of the other program so it wasn't needed anymore.

I finally got around to making vegetarian shepherds pie. Mine was mushroom and onions cooked with lentils and topped with copious mashed potatoes.

My belly is happy and full.

This weekend was pretty good.

I went to crafting Saturday afternoon.
My choir concert was Saturday evening.
My kid and I walked more than 2 miles in the cold for Frosty Feet on Sunday.

And I finished 3 books: Witcha Gonna Do, The Nightmare Before Kissmas, and Clockwork Boys.

Our choir concert was a ton of fun! People clapped along and cheered a bit for Goodbye Earl, which made a terrific encore piece!

I have 3 hours of Patti before my rollover day at the end of January.

I was thinking about using some today, but I'll be at full time for the week by 2:15. I'll do it anyway and get my run done on the treadmill at a more reasonable time.

My coworker is out today, so I'm 1.5 people today (thankfully I don't have to get all his work done), but it isn't going super well.

I'm just a grumpy mess that wants to be crafting and eating sweets in a pile of blankets.

I got up and made it to the Y this morning. I did my walk-run repeats (I graduated to 6 min walk, 10 run).

My pace is slow and I was holding on (I know that's bad), but it is still getting better.

A few weeks ago I heard an NPR segment about a book, The Talisman of Happiness. It arrived over the weekend and today I made a soup from it.

I didn't use dried beans, because I would have needed to start the day before. It was still good and soothing.

For all the outdoor runners today... and everyday.

This tiny part of me wishes my kid hadn't eaten the last of the fried rice. My lunch looks like muffin and an apple, which isn't as exciting.

Sometimes dinner is a hit with everyone in the family. Kind of makes up for me punting on breakfast this morning.

Crafting today was a chance to push away the horrors for a bit and eat a pistachio scone.

Also, yesterday I bought cross-stitch patterns. I expect they will arrive next week and I will do another craft to make things better.

It was a misty morning, but I still went out to walk.

The only flaw of walking for exercise rather than purely for fun is that I don't get to spend as much time watching the squirrels chasing each other through people's yards.

Multiple days of error testing where it works fine in dev and not in prod solved by using a wired network connection.

So darn irritating.

I didn't wake up early enough to do a training run, but it is supposed to be 50 degrees at lunchtime, so maybe I will do a longer walk and not worry too much about it.

They are all good miles, Brent.
January 5, 2026 at 12:24 PM
Kid and I (and my friends) did our Frosty Feet miles this morning. 3.5 miles of walking didn't feel so bad even with temps in the 20s given there was no wind.

The last knitting project I finished in 2025 was this sock pattern, which turned out to be a smidge too big for me.

Thankfully I have friends with all sizes of feet!

I can't believe I have to say this, but please tell your representatives that we should not be kidnapping foreign heads of state or bombing countries unprovoked.

I just called my reps with @5calls.org, you should too: 5calls.org

Yesterday was my first 5K in forever where I ran more than half of it.

I was super sore and should have taken ibuprofen when I finished (I also got a bonus optical migraine during the run), but I took it in the evening and feel mostly better now.

Happy January 1st.

I have a 5K later today (Frozen Rails).

Last work day of the year.

I was hoping for something chill, but instead it is busy. Not bad, but I was hoping to not need to rush.
