Very true, but also important to remember that we get both cheap AND safe (the latter is often forgotten). It’s amazing that it’s safer to spend $99 on a ticket to fly 500mph, 6 miles off the ground, than it is to stay at home. That takes a lot of hard work from industry and government.

I never said anything about a “coup.” My bet is that she will jump in as the outsider voice of the “true MAGA,” position Trump as selling them out, and parlay that into a presidential run. None of that requires being in Congress and a lot of it is easier if she isn’t.

If you’re taking MTG at her literal word, based on only the words she’s saying right now to the camera, then yes. Based on her history, I think that’s a bad bet but we’ll see who is right.

Anyone MAGA who gets to see the actual video clips is going to have to up their cognitive dissonance level to 3X the normal level to buy that. And undoubtedly some will succeed.

I agree with you that Trump and MAGA have appeared inseparable. However, that doesn’t mean there won’t be people who try to take it over, or break off pieces of the movement. The opportunists on the right smell blood with Trump’s recent weakness.

However it’s a big leap to try to take over what Trump built. Not sure it’s possible to have MAGA without Trump, but that won’t stop people from trying to supersede him.

That wasn’t a resignation announcement, it was an announcement that she’s trying to be in the running to take over MAGA as Trump progressively looks weaker, and then parlay that into a run for the WH. The opportunists on the right smell blood, and there is no loyalty to a weakened Trump.

As Trump gets weaker and MAGA gets disillusioned with him, a power gap opens up. MTG is an opportunist and has been detaching from Trump for a while so she can attempt to take over as the head of MAGA.

MTG smells weakness in Trump and she’s an opportunist. As he gets weaker there will be more lining up behind MTG to take over the MAGA crown. This is a sign that Trump’s fortunes are turning. Maybe MAGA disperses or maybe a new leader emerges.

I disagree. This is the moment where opportunists like MTG are recognizing that Trump has become expendable from the MAGA movement, and people like her have a shot at taking it over if they play their cards right.

And MTG just sent out her audition tape to take over the MAGA movement. The weaker Trump gets, the more opportunists we will see trying to be the next leader of the movement.

This is Mamdani’s “these aren’t the droids you’re looking for” moment. Trump has always fawned over people with combinations of charisma, power, wealth, and popularity. Mamdani has enough of those things that Trump once again wants to be seen with “the cool kids”

Good article. He's lost control of himself in a way that opens up opportunities (risks) for others worse than Trump to try to jump in and take control of MAGA. His meeting with Mandami is a perfect catalyst for aspiring kings/queens of MAGA to say Trump has lost it and it's time for a new leader.
